The History of Video Games
Some of the earliest forms of entertainment were very simple and lacked any depth or dimension, but it still got the job done.
What happens when playing a Video Game?
When playing video games the brain concentrates on the objective and releases dopamine when the goal is met.

What are the effects?
There are both positive and negative effects of video games depending on what video games are being played and for how long.
Negative Effects
Playing violent video games like Doom, GTAV, Hatred, Mortal Kombat, and any games that the main objective is to kill will most certainly result in:
aggressive behavior
Positive effects
Playing video games can allow the player to develop
Greater hand-eye coordination
Greater multitasking abilities
Quicker decision making
Better eyesight
Playing video games that aren't very violent can have benefits on the brain and improve the player's life overall.

Pong was developed in 1972 and is revered in the gaming community as an all-time classic.

As time went by developers were figuring out new ways of creating a more immersive gaming environment.
Pac-Man, specifically Ms. Pac-Man became the best selling arcade game of all-time shortly after its release in 1982.
Mortal Kombat was one of the first violence oriented video games. Doom was also released in the same year bringing violence to gamers of all ages.
May 17, 2009 Minecraft was released for the PC and it changed open-world sandbox games forever.
League of Legends is now one of the most popular video games in the entire world with over 67 million concurrent monthly gamers.
