European Programs with Amber Initiatives
European programs come in all shapes and sizes...
...the famous
ERASMUS
was created for students...
...others, like ERASMUS+
Traineeships
, are for professional development...
...but Amber is involved in three programs related to informal learning through youth projects:

(2) YOUTH INTIATIVES
& (3) EVS
(1) YOUTH EXCHANGE
So what is ERASMUS+?
it is a program
funded by the European Union
and
administered by the British Council
in the UK;
it brings together seven existing EU programs in the fields of
Education, Training
, and
Youth
; it will for the first time provide support for
Sport
;
it supports
transnational

partnerships
among Education, Training, and Youth institutions and organizations providing opportunities for over 4 million Europeans to study, train, gain work experience and volunteer abroad.
The general objectives of the youth programs included in ERASMUS+ are...
improving the level of
key competences and skills
of young people, including those with fewer opportunities, and youth workers;
promoting
participation in democratic life
in Europe and the labor market,
active citizenship
,
intercultural dialogue
, social inclusion and
solidarity
;
fostering
quality improvements in youth work
, particularly through cooperation between organizations in the youth field;
complementing
policy reforms
at local, regional and national level;
supporting the recognition of
non-formal
and informal learning
;
& enhancing the
international
dimension of youth activities.
But let's talk about...
YOUTH EXCHANGE!
groups of young people (13-30, but preferably
17-25

years
) from different countries;
given topic
, e.g. new media;
short-term
(usually 1 to 2 weeks);
non-formal
, meaning: lots of games & fun;
in most cases:
100% free
! (maybe a small contribution to travel expenses).

Here comes... YOUTH INITIATIVES!
community-based projects
managed by young people, e.g.
artistic & cultural initiatives,
actions for supporting local community,
creating clubs or social enterprises;
a great way to gain
basic project management skills
easily transferable to the job market;
open to
groups
of young people (
15-30 years
) from at least two European countries;
6-24 months;
100% funded.

Amber Initiatives - who we are
Amber Initiatives was
established in 2005
to provide
specialist advice and support to migrant communities
living in and around Plymouth
& to local organizations
- employers, teachers, landlords, farmers and statutory or voluntary organizations - who have direct contact with community groups of migrant workers;
our aim is to
assist in the settlements and adjustment of migrant workers
and to provide services designed to
increase the newcomer's participation in British society
by assisting migrants to overcome barriers;
so far, our programs included e.g.
information events and workshops,
Family Support Programme,
Community Safety Programme,
Awareness raising...
+ we are both sending and hosting EVS volunteers!
Sending volunteers to Greece, Malta or Spain...
...and receiving volunteers from Russia, Hungary, Spain or the Czech Republic
