L.O. - Use coordinates and algebra with geometric properties.
A circle with centre A has a tangent at the x-axis and another tangent BC at the point (16, 4). BC intersects the x-axis at (13,0). Find the coordinates of the centre of the circle.

Distance QR = 5 (by Pythagoras)
P = (8, 0) (tangents same length)
Gradient of QR = 4/3
Gradient of AR = -3/4
Equation of AR: y = -3/4x + c passes through (16,4)
Equation of AR: y = -3/4x + 16
x = 8
y = -3/4 * 8 + 16 = 10.
Example
Gradient of AB = 4/2 = 2
Gradient of BC = -1/2

As 2 x -1/2 = 1, AB is perpendicular to BC.
