Montessori found patterns in the behavior of children. Strong children were thought to be "temperamental, aggressive, insubordinate, with an inclination toward violence and raged. They were "self-absorbed and jealous, loud, and vocal with a tendency to bully others." Weak children were found to be "submissive, beggars for attention, and demanding regarding their needs." (Brendtro, 1999)
Today there are over 4,000 Montessori schools in the United States.
The Montessori method involves allowing children to develop sensory and cognitive skills while improving life skills and building character.(Gisolo, p.3)
