Transcript of Solar System project!

Mercury
Venus
Venus is 108,000,000 km away from the sun
The period of rotation (earth days) is 243.
The period of revolution (earth years) is 0.62.
Venus has no moons.
Venus' diameter (km) is 12,104
Venus is only a little smaller than Earth.
Venus spins backwards when compared to the other planets. This means that the sun rises in the west and sets in the east on Venus.
Venus is a rocky planet, also known as a terrestrial planet. Venus' solid surface is a cratered and volcanic land.
Mars
The Solar System!
Picture of Mercury!
The Planet Venus!
The diameter of Mars is 6,794 km.
The period of rotation is 1.03 Earth days.
The average distance from the Sun is 228 million km.
The period of revolution is 1.9 Earth days.
Mars has 2 moons.
Mars is called the red planet because when you see it in the sky it has a slightly reddish tinge.
The atmosphere of Mars is more than 95% carbon dioxide.
Scientists think that a large amount of liquid water flowed on Mars surface in the distant past.
The planet Mars!
Mercury is 58,000,000 km away from the sun
The period of rotation days of Mercury (earth days) is 59.
The period of revolution on Mercury (earth years) is 0.24.
Mercury has no moons.
The diameter (km) of Mercury is 4,879.
Mercury is the smallest planet in our solar system - only slightly larger than the Earth's moon.
Mercury has a solid,cratered surface,much like Earth's moon.
Mercury is a rocky planet, also known as a terrestrial planet.
The Sun!!
The sun is the largest object in the Solar system.
The sun is sometimes called an "ordinary star."
The surface of the sun is the photosphere.
There are sunspots on the sun.
Sunspots are areas of gas on the sun's surface that are cooler than the gases around them.
Above the chromosphere there is a region, called the corona
The sun is orbited by the eight planets.
Without the sun's intense energy there would be no life on Earth.
The planet
Earth!
Earth
Earth is 150 million km away from the Sun.
Earth has one moon.
The period of revolution is one Earth year.
The period of rotation is one Earth day.
The diameter of Earth is 12,756 km.
Earth's atmosphere protects us from incoming meteoroids.
Earth has no rings.
Earth is a Terrestrial planet.
What makes Earth different from the other terrestrial planets is that it is also an ocean planet: 70 percent of the Earth's surface is covered in oceans.
Jupiter
Jupiter is 779 million km away from the Sun.
The diameter of Jupiter is 143 thousand km.
The period of rotation is 0.41 Earth days.
The period of revolution is 12 Earth years.
Jupiter has 63+ moons.
Jupiter is the largest and massive planet.
Jupiter's enormous mass dwarfs the other planets.
Astronomers think Jupiter like other giant planets, probably has a dense core of rock and iron at its center.

Saturn
The diameter of Saturn is 120,500 km.
The period of rotation is .045 Earth days.
The average distance from the Sun is 1,434,000,000 km.
The period of revolution is 29 Earth years.
Saturn has 56+ moon.s
Saturn is a gas giant.
Saturn has the most spectacular rings of any planet.
Saturn's largest moon, Titan, is larger than the planet Mercury.
Uranus
The diameter of Uranus is 51,120 km.
The period of rotation is 0.72 Earth days.
The period of revolution is 84 Earth years.
The average distance from the Sun is 2 billion, 873, million km.
Uranus has 27+ moons.
Uranus' axis of rotation is tilted at an angle of about 90 degrees from the vertical.
Although the gas giant Uranus is about four times the diameter of Earth, it is still much smaller than Jupiter and Saturn.
Uranus is twice as far from the Sun as Saturn, so it is much colder.
Neptune's diameter is 49,530 km.
The period of rotation is 0.67 Earth days.
The average distance from the Sun is 4 billion, 495 million km.
The period of revolution is 164 Earth years.
Neptune has 13+ moons.
Neptune is a cold blue planet.
Its atmosphere contains visible clouds.
Neptune was discovered as a result of mathematical prediction.
