CHLOROHYDRIN PROCESS
First process used in production of Ethylene Oxide(EO)
Was replaced by the direct oxidation using air or oxygen
Contained vast amounts of chemicals













DIRECT OXIDATION
Done in using either pure oxygen or air
Selectivity for air oxidation is 63-75% and with pure oxygen 75-82%
Conversion for air is 20-65% and with pure oxygen 8-12%

Ethylene Oxide (EO) is a versatile chemical used as an intermediate or final product
Currently has an important role
Used in various areas

Sterilizing Agent

SPECIFICATIONS
Appearance - colourless gas or liquid with sweet, etheric scent

Construction material-Stainless steel or carbon steel

Legal Specifications
Banned in Germany and other parts of Europe
Limited use in USA and Russia
Starts around 100 degrees
Highly exothermic
Promoted by presence of impurities like acid, bases, metal oxides
