Only requires one parent
a = not
The DNA of the offspring is
identical to that of the parent
reproduction requires reproductive
cells (gametes) from two parents
DNA of offspring is a blending of the DNA of both parents
All Organisms are Able to Reproduce
Reproduction involving the fusion of a male and female haploid gamete
Reproduction that does not involve the combining of male and female cells
All Organisms Can Adjust To Their Surrounding
There are three types of adjustment:
anything an organism responds to is a stimulus and how the organism reacts is the response
All Organisms Change Over Time
the ability to adjust to changes in an organism's surroundings is called adaption. adaption to environmental change makes the organism better able to survive.
organisms have conditions within their bodies that are considered normal. when an organism has been stimulated in some way, homeostasis helps the organism's body to return to those normal conditions.
All Organisms are Made Up
There are two types of cells
multicellular and unicellular
A multicellular organism refers to any organism made up of two or more cells.
The cells of multicellular organisms are organized into tissues, organs, and/or organ systems to perform specific jobs .
~ multi = many
An unicellular organism refers to any organism made up of one and only one cell. Different parts of one cell perform different functions, such as digestion, or excretion for the cell.
~ uni = one
Humans change and develop over their lifetime. First they are babies, then they become children, then teens, and adults. They then become older and finally grandparents. Eventually they will die.
Did You Know?
Life Spans of Animals:
sea lion..........14 years
guinea pig.....8 years
All Organisms Have Basic Needs
humans and animals need
So, how can you determine if something is a living organism?
You can determine if something is a living organism by deciding if it...
- is made out of cells
- can reproduce
- adjusts to its surroundings
- changes over time
