Gwen Arnold The Early Years. Darren Everett Criss was born on February 5, 1987 in San Francisco California. Darren's Education. Darren completed his elementary education at Stuart Hall for Boys. He graduated from Saint Ignatius College Preparatory in 2005. Darren was a member of the performing arts program. he was also in theater. Darren was Concertmaster in the school Orchestra. Darren attended the University of Michigan where he majored in theater performance and minored in musicology and Italian. Darren was an active as both a actor and director in the university's student run theater organization program called 'The Basement Arts'. In the spring of 2008 Darren spent a semester studying Italian theater at the Accademia dell'Arte in Arezzo, Italy. He lived in San Francisco for most of his life. Darren's father Charles Criss was the director of the San Francisco Opera, as well the Philharmonic Baroque Orchestra. Darren has an older brother named Chuck Criss who has his own band that is called Freelance Whales which Darren was a part of for a short time. Musical Start Darren is an American Actor/Singer - Song Writer. He was interested in music at an early age. Darren started taking violin lessons at the age of five. He's mastered and plays multiple instruments including the violin, guitar, piano, mandolin, and harmonica. when Darren was 15 he started music composition which lead him to writing his first song called 'Human' which would be the title of his first album. Active Theater Career Darren is one of the founders and Co-Owner of the StarKid Theater Company which is located in Chicago, IL in 2009. he is one of the main composers for StraKid.
Darren is not just known for being one the composers but he also is in three of starKid most popular musicals.
Darren became famous for his role as Harry Potter in the Youtube productions of A Very Potter Musical, A Very Potter Sequel, and there most resent musical A Very Potter Senior Year which is the final musical in the parody Series.
Darren has also join the StarKid cast on there national tourers, such as the Space Tour and the Apocalyptour. In January 2012 Darren made his first Broadway debut. Darren was replacing Daniel Radcliffe in the role of J. Pierrepont Finch in the revival of 'How To Succeed in Business Without really Trying.' which he was only on Broadway for three weeks. Solo Career Darren started his solo career during college playing at small venues. He has played at The Roxy, The Troubadour, as the Lincoln Center. His song style is mostly Standers from the American Songbook, Contemporary songs as well Disney Classics, and his own compositions. Darren's music idol is Alan Menken. Darren has performed with Barbra Streisand, and Rod Stewart. Darren has his own independently produced EP called 'Human' which he classified as "Soul-Folk". Darren as Harry Potter and the starKid company glee live The Warblers Darren as Blaine Anderson on glee Darren playing at The Roxy Darren's glee Career Darren is a series regular on the T.V. show glee. he didn't join the glee cast until the second season as the lead singer of the Dalton Academy Warblers. Darren plays Blaine Anderson and openly gay student who help his McKinley's own gay student Kurt Hummel (Chris Colfer) with his bullies. Darren first single 'Teenage Dream' was the highest selling song in the first week it was released. In the 3rd season Darren join the rest of the glee cast as part of McKinley's New Directions glee club. Darren and the rest of the Warblers joined the glee cast on there second glee live tour
