Brothers Mike and Vic Fuentes were in a band called Early Times when they were in high school. Early Times later became Before Today. When Before Today broke up, Mike and Vic began writing songs that later became A Flair for the Dramatic. The addition of Tony Perry and Jaime Preciado in 2006 made Pierce the Veil complete.

Vic Fuentes calls Pierce the Veil's music, “Mexi-core. It’s basically a mix of heavy music with a little Spanish feel.”
