By:Megan DiRando MATTER Gas A gases particles are packed not close, the particles can move freely. Liquid Solids There are two types of solids A type of solid is a solid made out of crystal, that's a crystalline solid. Another one is solid made out of plastic, rubber,or glass. It is called amorphous. A liquid has a definite volume. A liquid has no shape of it's own. Particles in a liquid move very freely but not as much as a gas. A solids particles are packed very closely. When a gas loses thermal energy the particles in a gas become more slower. Their are very many examples of a gas such as oxygen and others. A solid is very hard to break but may be melted or burned. A liquid soft but may be changed to a gas or solid. A gas spreads in all directions.A gas can turn from a gas to a liquid. What is Matter Matter is classified as a solid, liquid,or gas.The three states of matter or defined manly by the way they hold their volume and shape. Changes of State Matter is anything that has mass or takes up space. Atoms are the smallest part of matter. Atoms have three main parts to it electrons, neutrons, and protons. Two different solids Atom Three states of matter Atoms are the smallest part of matter. Homogeneous Heterogeneous Compounds Atom Melting, freezing, condensation, and evaporation. An example of all of them is: melting=a Popsicle in the sun. freezing=ice in the freezer. condensation=fog on a mirror. evaporation=a puddle drying up. elements mass/volume potential energy kinetic energy energy transfers motion;speed and direction potential energy is energy from the start the beginning of something. In a heterogeneous mixture ,you can see the different parts . An example is:Salad, how you can see the tomatoes, lettuce, and cumbers. A homogeneous mixture the substances are so evenly mixed that you cant see the different parts. An example is:bubbles, you cant see anything mixed with somebody blowing bubbles under the sea. A compound is a pure substance made of two or more elements chemically combined in a set ratio. An example is:c/12/h/22/o/11=is a compound made from the elements carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen. Volume is the amount of space that matter occupies. Solids, liquids, and gases all have volume. Volume=length/width/height. Mass is the amount of matter in an object. A diver at the top ready to fall into the water. Kinetic energy is the energy of moving matter. kinetic energy is anything that is in or has been in motion. An example is:a roller coaster falling down a hill. Energy can be transfered from one location to another. Energy can also be transfered from one object to another. An example is:slapping someone in the face. For Motion,Speed, and Direction I did an egg drop experiment. we had to make a parachute and drop the parachute with the egg in it,at 28ft. Are parachute fell 1.6sec we had alot of different energies. some examples of the energies we had were:kinetic, and potential energy we had gravity and air resistance Elements are the simplest substances. An element is a pure substance that cannot be broken down into any other substance by chemical or physical means. An example is:aluminum, which is used to make foil.pennies are made from zinc which is another element. such as a container thats the amount of matter in an object. all forms of energy are:mechanical, chemical, electrical, light, thermal, and sound energy.
