By: Kyle, Mollie, Lyanne, Sam, Derrek Geography and Early Japan The First Japanese Geography Shapes Life in Japan The Japanese were separated from the other people of Asia. All of the islands of Japan are just tops of mountains and volcanoes coming out of the ocean.

Early Japanese
The first people of Japan were powerful clans who believed that they were descendants of Kami.

The Ainu
The Ainu moved to Japan and they were different than the Japanese. They spoke a language that is different and looked different. The Ainu
Japan sent representatives to China and Korea to gather information about their culture and invited people to move to Japan. The Japanese wanted to learn about China and Korea.

Changes in Language
When the Japanese sent their representatives to China and Korea they learned their language. Japan learned languages from China and Korea. Changes in Religion & Philosophy Prince Shotoku changed Japan immensely. He wanted to change peoples minds about their religion. Shotoku sent his scholars to China to learn about their society.

Changes in Government
The prince also wanted to change Japans government and also wanted the emperors to have more power. The first Japanese lived south of the Ainu. They were the ones who invented the ritual, Shinto. These people lived in small farming villages.
The First Emperors
The Yamato rulers conquered Japan claimed to have a glorious family history. They believed that they were descended by the Kami. Changes in Religion and Philosophy Prince Shotoku changed Japan immensely. He wanted to change peoples minds about their religion. Shotoku sent his scholars to China to learn about their society.
Changes in Government
The prince also wanted to change Japans government and also wanted the emperors to have more power. Japan Learns from China & Korea
