By Nathanial . J . Martinez Gangsters Paradise by.
Coolio Meaning of the song.
______________________ L.V. Gangsters Paradise Was the singer that singed the chorus and the ending bridge. He became even more famous after this song with his hip -hop and rap career. He was born in 1987 and as of this year 55 years old. He was born in South Los Angeles, California. His real name is Larry Sanders, L.V. is just his stage name. He died on February 6th 2012. The main idea for this song came from Stevie Wonder's "Pastine Paradise" just with a change of words. Al Yankovic made a parody called Amish Paradise which made fun of Coolio's song. Coolio tried to sue Al because Al did not ask Coolio if he could make this parody. Al said he did ask and Coolio said yes. After a long argument the two said they would forget about it. Coolio/Artis Leon Ivey Jr. Charity work Coolio also starred in many movies from 1996 to 2012 and even starred in Dangerous Minds the movie that used his song that same year it came out. When he is not singing songs and at concert he is a father. He has six children, from four different relationships. He was born on August 1st 1963 and 49 years old. He was born in Compton, California. He and his children all suffer from asthma Singers The people that sing this song are
Coolio singing the main song and
L.V. singing the chorus. Lyrics Verse 1 Even though Artis is known for his songs many don't Know about his charity work.
He works with the groups Music saves lives, Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America,Environmental Justice and Climate change. Coolio/Artis Leon Ivey Jr.
Behind the Singer Quatrain Couplet Imagery I think this is imagery because
I can imagine seeing someone holding a 10 and having a kind of gleam shining in their eye. Assonance Personification Stanza I think this is a assonance because In the sentence "I can't live a normal life, I was raised by the strip" , because the two I's are in the same sentence and line. Mood Lyric
As I walk through the valley of the shadow of death
I take a look at my life and realize there's not much left
Cause I've been blastin and laughin so long that
Even my mama thinks that my mind is gone
But I ain't never crossed a man that didn't deserve it
He be treated like a punk, you know that's unheard of You better watch how you talkin, and where you walkin Or you and your homies might be lined in chalk I really hate to trip, but I gotta loc
As they croak I see myself in the pistol smoke, fool
I'm the kinda G the little homies wanna be like
On my knees in the night
Sayin prayers in the street light

We've been spending most our lives
Living in the Gangsta's Paradise
We've been spending most our lives
Living in the Gangsta's Paradise
We keep spending most our lives
Living in the Gangsta's Paraside
We keep spending most our lives
Living in the Gangsta's Paraside

[Verse 2]
Look at the situation, they got me facin
I can't live a normal life, I was raised by the strip
So I gotta be down with the hood team
Too much television watchin got me chasin dreams
I'm a educated fool with money on my mind
Got my ten in my hand and a gleam in my eye
I'm a loc'ed out gangsta, set-trippin banger
And my homies is down, so don't arouse my anger, fool
Death ain't nuthin but a heart beat away
I'm livin life do-or-die-a, what can I say?
I'm twenty-three now, but will I live to see twenty-fo'?
The way things is goin I dunno

[Bridge] *L.V.*
Tell me why are we -- so blind to see
That the ones we hurt -- are you and me

[Chorus]

[Verse 3]
We keep spending most our lives
Living in the Gangsta's Paraside
Power and the money, money and the power
Minute after minute, hour after hour
Everybody's runnin, but half of them ain't lookin
It's goin on in the kitchen, but I dont know what's cookin
They say I got ta learn, but nobody's here to teach me
If they cant understand it, how can they reach me?
I guess they cain't -- I guess they won't
I guess they front; that's why I know my life is outta luck, fool

[Chorus]

[Bridge]
Tell me why are we -- so blind to see
That the ones we hurt -- are you and me
Tell me why are we -- so blind to see
That the ones we hurt -- are you and me
[Bridge]
Tell me why are we -- so blind to see
That the ones we hurt -- are you and me
Tell me why are we -- so blind to see
That the ones we hurt -- are you and me Trope Envoy Consonance The sentence "Cause I've been blastin and laughin so long that
Even my mama thinks that my mind is gone", I think that this is a consonance because the end of both blastin and laughin both end with in which makes it fall under the definition of consonance. The sentence "You better watch how you talkin, and where you walkin Or you and your homies might be lined in chalk", I think is a form of Trope because I doubt that someone will have chalk drawled on them just by the way someone talks or where they walk. The sentence"Tell me why are we -- so blind to see
That the ones we hurt -- are you and me", is a couplet because in the sentence see and me rhyme. Caesura The sentence "As I walk through the valley of the shadow of death" is what I think a form of personification. I think this is a form of personification because I don't think that death has a shadow and this is giving something that is not human, human features. The sentence" Tell me why are we -- so blind to see
that the ones we hurt are -- you and me" is a caesura because the lines are supposed to be pauses and these inflict a dramatic pause wich is the definition of caesura. Free verse I think that this song is a free verse because the song has now consistent rhyme which makes this song a free verse. This song is also a free verse because it takes 11 lines till there is rhyme. The section at the end of each line that are see, me ,see,me which all rhyme which makes this section a quatrain because all four of these words rhyme and were at the end of each line, and matches the definition and requirements for part of a song or piece of poetry to be a quatrain. Literal I think the sentence" To much television watchin got me chasin dreams", is literal because many people start to think of impossible and possible dreams after they see movies, shows and other forms of entertainment. This song is a lyric because it explains the
feelings and thoughts that the singer has imposed into the song. Repetition The repetition in this song is " We've been spending most our life living in a gangsters paradise We keep spending most our life living in a gangsters paradise", is repetition because it is confirming the name of the song and putting some more understanding to the songs name. Internal rhyme This is internal rhyme because croak and smoke rhyme and they are in the same sentence which makes this rhyme fall under the definition of internal rhyme. There are 10 repeating linrs throughout the song that make up the stanza's there are three stanza's. This last part is a stanza and there is rhyme so all of these things in the last stanza match what is needed for the definition of envoy. Refrain The section that is a refrain is the last stanza" Why are we so blind to see that the ones we hurt are you and me. This is a refrain because it is a group of lines that repeats throughout the song Verse There are three verses throughout the song that are singed by coolio. There are three sections of chorus, there are also three sections of bridge. Singer L.V. sings the chorus and bridge.
___________ The mood of the poem is a kind of struggling hardship in someones everyday life. I think this because the person thisa song is focusing on seems like they have a hard life with troubles everyday. The meaning of the song is a kind of struggle in someones life because of the decisions they have made in their life. It is also about someone that considers themselves a gangster and is realizing that he is spending his life the wrong way, and wants to turn his life around. I also think it means tha you should always make good decisions.
