Plate Tectonics
By: Matt Ng
The lisosphere is broken up by tectonic plates
Jigsaw like puzzle pieces under the Earth's crust
There are 7 or 8 major tectonic plates
There are also many other minor plates
The plates shift and move across the lithosphere
Since the strength of the lithospere and its lower desnisty then the astenosphere, tectonic plates are able to move

Transform Boundary
When two plates slide past each other
Causes friction and results in earthquakes
The San Andreas Fault is at a transform boundary
When one plate slides under the other
Subduction zones occur at this boundary
Creates some of the world's tallest mountains
When two plates pull away from each other
New magma fills in the gap where the plates
pull apart
The new magma cools and becomes lithosphere
What is a Boundary?
A boundary is where two tectonic plates meet
Earthquakes, volcanic activity, oceanic trench, and mountain-building formations occur at boundaries
There are three types of boundaries
