MULTICULTURALISM IN EDUCATION
Transcript of MULTICULTURALISM IN EDUCATION
A house divided against itself cannot stand.
What is it?
“The textbooks are then frequently taught by teachers who have little or no formal education in American history and who receive little guidance from weak state content standards."
But will they teach American values?
A prime current example is the widespread use of U.S. and world history textbooks that are actively glorifying Islam and sanitizing its radical elements, while downplaying or denigrating the Judeo-Christian roots of the United States and Western civilization in general.
Will they be replaced with similar texts?

Why is this a problem?
"We the People of the United States..."
Lack of respect for Constitution and American values.
Decreasing civic engagement
Glorifies radical Islam and ignores fundamental American ideals
"Of course this initiative isn’t a panacea. It won’t fix everything that ails civics education in America. But making sure that high school students know at least as much about the fundamentals of US government and law as foreign-born citizens do would be a step in the right direction."
Will it verify that students have basic knowledge about American history and founding values?
Prime Minister David Cameron defines "the doctrine of state multiculturalism" as a strategy which has "encouraged different cultures to live separate lives, apart from each other and apart from the mainstream".
Multicultural Education…a life-long learning process designed to
empower all students to become
knowledgeable, caring, and active participants in their communities. Education that is multicultural is
inclusive and respectful of all ethnic, racial and cultural backgrounds
and engages staff, families, students and community.
