Transcript of Maryland
Maryland is part of the southern colonies so it has great fertile soil for a vast amount of cash crops
Cash crops mean lots of money on plantations, although if you are someone who thinks it is to much work, slaves can help your profits go up
One of the cash crops you could grow would be, tobacco or you can get wheat and corn which will help you live
Cecilius Calvert founded Maryland in 1632
His colony was originally founded as a haven for Roman Catholics who were persecuted in England. So religious tolerance was big in Maryland. Although there were some struggles with religion when protestants made up the majority, but this got resolved by the Maryland Toleration Act. In which approved of all Christianity.
Government of Maryland
Maryland was the first colony to be founded on the proprietary system of government in which a private land owner or corporation was granted power over all ruling aspects of the colony by the King. Maryland was the fourth of the American colonies founded. After Maryland, all colonies formally founded within the United States by a European were proprietary.
Why Come To Maryland?
From North to South, and East to West, our air is clean, and our land is the best!
We have many options for farmers, people of diverse religious belief, new opportunities at a better life, and many available water sources.
There was a few major tribes in Maryland when the colonists came. Some being the Ohio Valley Tribe and the Powhatan. The Europeans in Maryland were mostly England, but some from other European countries
Maryland is between mountains, hills and flat low area, located near the Chesapeake Bay. It borders Virginia, Delaware, Pennsylvania and West Virginia.
The geography of Maryland is very crucial to its survival.
Maryland's terrain is comprised of mountains, plains, plateaus and rivers. Near rivers farmers grew tobacco and wheat, while corn were grown in the Piedmont region. In fact Maryland's climate and fertile soil is the reason for Maryland's successful economy. As they would have to depend solely on imported goods from other colonies and from Europe without it
