SCHOLARSHIPS
In partnership with the Emory National Debate Institute, Glenn Pelham Foundation, and Georgia Debate Institutes (GDI), we were able to supply numerous partial and full scholarships to summer debate institutes. Those considered for scholarships have demonstrated a commitment to the practice of debate and a willingness to improve upon their skills for application in years to come.

The Urban Debate National Championship Tournament is an invitational tournament hosted each year by the National Association for Urban Debate Leagues. The top two teams from nineteen urban debate leagues in the NAUDL urban debate network are invited to compete in the three-day tournament. On April 8, 2015, students, coaches and league directors traveled to Los Angeles, California to compete in the 2015 Urban Debate National Championship, hosted at the University of Southern California. What is your most memorable moment from the Atlanta Urban Debate League? If you are feeling nostalgic or just curious about what we have been doing for the past 3 decades, join us on social media to celebrate!
So far, we have reviewed:
30 years of debate resolutions
30 things to love about debate
30 tips for improving your debate performances
30 testing tips for our students

“I was nervous at first and had a strong feeling of regret for being inexperienced, but I enjoyed the experience. I loved the ability to give the students positive reinforcement and constructive feedback. It was a great experience. I felt like each time I judged I did a better job.”

-Volunteer, 2014

"...they let you interact with multiple types of people and they let you argue both sides so you can argue both sides equally."
Teach for America and the Atlanta Urban Debate League have partnered to create a fellowship for teachers interested in starting a debate team at their school and incorporating debate techniques within their classes. Thanks for all of your work coaches, and congratulations!

AUDL Coach Survey 2015
“Coming together is a beginning. Keeping together is progress.
Working together is success.”
-Henry Ford

Congratulations on an amazing year! This has been another year where the AUDL has made significant and positive impacts in the lives of students, parents, teachers, and the community at large. These words above by Henry Ford are fitting and speak to our collective journey from the first tournament of the year to the present. Here are just a few highlights that demonstrate our success:

• Over 750 students debated in elementary, middle, and high school divisions.
• Were able to successfully pilot an elementary school debate league.
• Over 50 students and coaches are receiving scholarships to various summer debate camps and workshops.
• Increase in volunteers and new partnerships with
Teach For America
and
University of North Georgia
that enhance our judging throughout the year.
• Had two teams invited to debate at the prestigious National Urban Debate League Championships in Los Angeles, California this past April.

It is clear that we have had much success; we look forward to having an even bigger and better league next year.
Thank you to all the students, parents, coaches, volunteers, and supporters
who helped make this such a special year. We came together, worked together, and as a result we have attained a tremendous amount of success!

"I think that policy debate is a wonderfully motivating game/activity that motivates students to research, to read, to engage with each other and with challenging ideas."
