To investigate the knowledge and opinions of the public on the topic of biological conservation in Canada Methods Survey was conducted randomly (in school, at work, at the mall)
Sample size: 100 people
True/False, Multiple Choice, and Particular Answer questions

Majority of individuals were between the ages 18 and 25 Sample Survey Questions Results What do people want to conserve? Discussion Specific Focus

How much does the public know about conservation?
How willing are they to help with initiatives?
Does this willingness change with an increase in knowledge?
Are there significant differences between age classes? Methods Continued Data was analyzed on excel
R-Squared Values, Standard Error and Error Bars, and means were calculated for analysis
Knowledge and Eagerness-based questions were scored in order to correlate
1) People with more knowledge of conservation are more willing to help with conservation efforts

2) People are more willing to help conserve more aesthetically pleasing organisms, or animals that they believe are cute

3) Younger generations are more informed of conservation issues Hypotheses Knowledge and Conservation Positive, but weak correlation
High levels of knowledge allows people to understand importance of biodiversity
People with higher knowledge see the bigger picture, and how species are involved in everyday lives (Nantawanit et al. 2012) Knowledge and Conservation People may feel that conservation is unimportant
Even with high knowledge of conservation, people might not feel personally affected by it
Decisions affected by money (especially students) Aesthetically Pleasing Organisms Peoples' values vary and affect which organisms they would want to conserve

Future implementations of more educational programs encompassing conservation are essential

Increase the public's knowledge Conservation of threatened/endangered species, including the tiger salamander, the grizzly bear, the grey fox, and the columbian carpet moss
