5 Major Religions Founded in 33 AD
by Jesus in Palestine and is the largest world religion. Hinduism Founded in 1500 BC in India. Judaism Islam Founded in 622 CE in Mecca by Muhammad. Taoism Founded in 550 BCE in China by Lao-Tze. Christianity Mainly located in Europe, North America and South America. Sacred text The Holy Bible (Old Testament and New Testament) and The Ten Commandments. The Purpose of life is to know, love, and serve God. Jesus died so that we can live.
Believes in heaven and hell. Seven Deadly Sins
Pride, Greed, Lust, Envy, Gluttony, Anger, Sloth. How to live have faith in the true God and Christ's resurrection, do good works, and participate in sacraments. One God [A Trinity of Father,Son and The Holy Spirit]. Major symbols are the cross, dove, alpha and omega, anchor, fish, and chi rho. Major holidays are Christmas, Easter, Advent, Epiphany, and Lent. Third largest in the world. Mainly located in India, United Kingdom and United States. Sects are Saivism, Vaisnavism and Sakitsm. Sacred texts are The Vedas, Upanishads, Sutras, Bhagavad Gita. How to live is order life according to the dharma. Believes that the soul is born into a new body Major Holidays are Holi, Mahashivarati, Diwali Believes that there is only three ways to die Founded in 1300 BC in Mesopotamia by Abraham. Mainly in Israel, Europe and United States. Major sects are the Reform, Conservative and Orthodox. Sacred text Tanakh with the Talmud. They are monotheism and believe that human nature was created good. The purpose of life is obedience to God. How to live is to obey the law and atone for sin. Believe in reincarnation. Their day of worship is Saturday. Major holidays are Rosh Hashanah (The Jewish New Year),Hanukkah, Yom Kipper, Purim, Pesach, and Tu B'Shevat. They have seven days of creation, Ten Commandments, Twelve tribes of Israel and 13 Articles of Faith. Second largest in the world. Mainly located in the Middle East and North Africa. Major sects Sunni, Shiite, and Sufi. Sacred text is the Qur'an Their god's name is Allah. Believe that you were bore in a state of purity, imperfect yet capable of seeking God and doing good. Purpose of life is to submit to the will of Allah and attain paradise after death. How to live is to follow the Qur'an, Hadith, and the Five Pillars of Islam. Believe in resurrection of the body and soul followed by eternal paradise or hell after death. Major symbol is a crescent moon and star. Major holidays are Ramadan, Hijra, Eid-al-Adha, and Eid-al-Fitr. Mainly located in China. Sacred text are the Tao Te Ching and the Chuang-Tzu They are Pantheism and their leader is Sage. They believe that they were born in a state of purity, imperfect but capable of seeking the Tao and doing good. Purpose of life is to have inner harmony and peace; longevity. How to live in accordance with the Tao. Believe that after death you revert back to the state of non-being. Major symbol is Yin-Yang.
