Philosophies of Asia Buddhism Islam Confucianism The founder of Buddhism is Buddha Shakyamuni.

Buddhists believed way of life included peace, loving kindness, and wisdom.

Meditation is the heart of the Buddhist way of life.

There are 8 steps of happiness for the Buddha religion.

All problems and suffering come from confused and negative states of mind.

People in the Buddhist religion believe that we do not choose if we are reborn into the world, it all counts on karma.

If you have good karma, you can be reborn as a human or a god.

If you have bad karma you are reborn as an animal, ghost, or a hell being.
Buddhism spread all throughout Asia and became one of the main religions
Shinto Islam is one of the major religions of the world.

Islamic people choose to live according to the will of God.

People are expected to live up to the demands of Shari'a which is from the Qur'an.

The Pillars of Islam are the 5 Acts of Worship that people follow:

The shahadah is a testimony that confirms their faith.

The Salat is a ritual prayer that has to be done 5 times per day at dawn, in the afternoon, at dusk, and in the evening.

The Zaket is an act of purification

Sawm is when they fast for 29-30 days. They have a small meal before sunrise and refrain the rest of the day.

The Hajj is the pilgrimage to Mecca. The followers have to do it once in their lifetime, if they can afford it.
Daoism Animism Shinto means "the way of gods".

It is Japan's oldest religion.

The Shinto religion mainly focuses on giving thanks to spirits and people's ancestors.

It is animistic, which means they believe in nature spirits called Kami.

Shinto people believed that the spirits keep people from harm and that's why they make offerings of rice and fish.

There is no set day of worship or fixed book of Scripture.

They have oral prayers called Norito

It's more of a way of life than a religion.
The Japanese practiced Shinto to distinguish their religious traditions from others
The religion of Confucianism was created by Confucius.

The most important things to him were peace and order. He believed people had a proper role in society.

If everyone accepted their role in society, there would be peace and harmony.

There is a system of five relationships that Confucius thought of that taught people how to behave.

He taught that society began with family.
Confucianism impacted the thoughts and behavior of people for many years
Daoism was created by Laozi.

He told his followers to reject worldly positions and power and bond with nature.

Daoism taught people how to behave with nature and themselves personally.

There was competition between Buddhism and Daoism in popularity and political influence.

Daoism is where people are seeking out their own salvation. Animists believe that souls and take over animals and objects.

Animism is found in many tribal or primal religions.

This religion also believes the spirit world is stronger than the human world.

Tribal animism is a deeply religious way of life. They believe the spiritual and physical world are linked together.

Followers believe the soul is separate from our bodies.
People believed that mana, or supernatural power, could be used by people or put in charms
