Transcript of Care for premature babies.

The first few months after birth are a very hectic time and mothers are likely to feel tired.
- As soon as she feels able and her doctor approves, a woman can begin exercising.
Medical Checkups
- 4 to 6 weeks after
giving birth, women
should see a health
practitioner to check
on how they're doing
physically, emotionally, and to address any further needs.
Emotional Needs

Fathers: Fathers also face high and lows. The best they can do is be there to support their partner even though she can't explain her feelings. Other fathers suggest that by just physically hugging her when she cries or feels uncertain, can be all that is needed to make her feel you are "with her."

Baby: Your baby need your love. The care and support you give will shape your baby's world for the years to come and encourages them to explore the world around them. The love, attention, and affection you show your baby in the 1st year alone impacts their life tremendously.

recovering from a c-section, she will require a
special diet.

~ When preparing food, the mother should choose foods that require little to no preparation.
By the Numbers...
~ Almost 500,000 babies are born premature every year in the U.S. alone.

cause of death in newborns.
~ That’s 1 in 9 babies born.

Advancements in medical technology allow even the smallest of premature babies the opportunity to become strong and healthy.
Postnatal Care for the Mother
~ After giving birth, the mother goes through the postnatal period.
~ The mother will require many needs after for the postnatal period.
~ Postnatal: the period after childbirth.

are born, they are placed in

to keep them warm until they are healthy enough to be moved to an open bassinet.

it must be able to maintain
it's body weight and temp

attention for them to grow strong

Mother: The early days as a mother can be described as a "roller coaster" of feelings and reactions. Just acknowledging that the next few months will bring a wide range of new emotions means that you've taken the first step toward surviving them
~ U.S. has 6th largest number of preterm birth, with India at number one with 3,519,100.
~ Continue the same diet while pregnant, but mainly choose foods that are high in
vitamin C and iron.
Examples include: fresh fruit, raw vegetables, yogurt, or low fat granola.
~ Recommended that breastfeeding mothers should eat when hungry.
That is why rest is extremely important during the postnatal period.
