Chunkette Fiesty Buddy Kenny Angus Genis Hypothesis: We hypothesize that the meat will train the puppies the fastest. we love pupies!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Our project will not only benefit us but it will benefit the people who read this board. We have now determined the fastest way to train a puppy so the next time anyone gets a new puppy (and has seen our project) they will know the fastest way to teach their puppy to sit. It is very important that puppies are trained because it is important to their development and for them to be a good member of the family. Teaching a pup to sit is an excellent first skill to teach a puppy. It is very easy to teach a puppy to sit and lays the foundation for teaching other skills to the pup (iams.org). There are many tools that can be used to help teach a puppy to sit. Nat Geo Wild's Cesar Milan (the Dog Whisperer) believes that meat is one of the best tools to use because it will stimulate the nose making them want it more. So we chose meat to be one of the three tools we were going to use. Our other tools were praise and puppy food. Labrador Retriever (Labs) are the most registered
breed in the United States according to the American '
Kennel Club (akc.org). Therefore, we chose to use labs for our Science Fair Project. Labs became a breed after Setters and Retrievers were cross breed in Newfoundland. Materials: Iams puppy food (yellow bag)
15 foot hallway
Hillshire Farms Honeybaked Ham Tools:
Meat, Praise, Puppy Food Azul Cami Chunk We used a quiet 15 ft. hallway with all the doors closed to avoid distractions. One person sat facing the pup, told him/ her to sit and pressed on their bottom, then gave the pup their form of reward/tool. The other person recorded what the pup did. The person working with the pup moved back called it to them and repeated the process explained above. This continued until the pup had been trained or sat without the trainer pushing on his/her bottom, 5 times. Fastest? Iams puppy food trained the pups the second fastest. The pups on which puppy food was tested were trained by 31.
Praise trained the pups the slowest. The pups
on which praise was tested were trained by test 35. Data charts: By: Sidney Fenton and Leah Leone
