Common Core State Standards
Students need better knowledge and tools to prepare for the future (www.cde.gov).
There are still achievement gaps that exist throughout our nation.
With the collaboration of states, standards were designed to be clear, consistent, rigorous, and relevant.
A common set of standards enures that all students, no matter where they live, will be focused on graduating from high school prepared for post secondary education and careers (www.cnusd.k12.ca.us).
The Common Core State Standards (CCSS) provides deeper and more focused content for students that encourages critical thinking and problem-solving.
CCSS will facilitate conversation among parents, teachers, and children about high-level academic learning goals.

As we have learned from our class text, the definition of curriculum has many meanings. According to Ornstein and Hunkins (2013), curriculum can be viewed as a plan for setting goals, a way of dealing with learners’ experiences in and outside of the classroom, a way of managing people and content, a theoretical field of study on its own, and the subject matter or content to be taught by teachers and learned by learners at certain grade levels.
In Chapter 3, we explored the many types of curricular and educational reform our country has experienced since the beginning of our nation. Curriculum reform seeks to change curriculum in the current practice of that time to improve the education offered to students.
Today, the curriculum reform we are undergoing is the adoption and recent implementation of the Common Core State Standards. Please explore the rest of our Prezi to learn about the CCSS and the implications it has on our teaching and our students’ learning.
