1490-1558 Alvar Nunez Cabeza De Vaca Alvar Nunez Cabeza De Vaca was born in 1490 in Spain in the village of Jerez de la Frontera. Birth, Childhood and Death Alvar Nunez Cabeza De Vaca's Exploring Life. Alvar Nunez Cabeza De Vaca died poor in the village of Sevilla,Spain Alvar NUnez Cabeza De Vaca fought for King Ferdinand of Spain. After, King Ferdinand attached Alvar Nunez Cabeza De Vaca to the Narvaez expedition. His goal was to find his way to Mexico City and then find the route from the east coast of South America to Spain's colony in Peru Panfilo De Narvaez was the captain of the exploration.He died on the way to Texas when his raft sank. The four surviving people from the expedition were: Estevanico,Carranza, Alonzo Castillo Maldonado and Cabeza De Vaca. Alvar Nunez Cabeza De Vaca and his shipmates were the first people to see the American buffalo, or the Bison. He was also the first european to see Iguacu falls in Paraguay. The Expedition went to Tampa Bay, Florida, and then they made five rafts. hoping to get to Mexico.Three rafts sank and the remaining two landed in Texas.
