Toronto, Ontario (YYZ) Destination:
Nairobi (NBO) Follow Me To..... A is For: F is For: R is For: I is For: C is For: A is For: Attractions: It is not everyday that you get to travel across the world to another continent. Kenya has many spectacular attractions that you will not find anywhere else in the world. These attractions include: 1) The Masai Mara, 2) Lamu, 3) Lake Nakuru National Park, 4) Mount Kenya, 5) Malindi and Watamu..... WHERE? WHO? WHAT? WHEN? WHY? Kenya For the purpose of this trip, I will travel with my close friend Julia. To me, traveling with a friend is very different from traveling with parents. Being with a friend makes a trip that much more fun and exciting! Since Kenya lies on the equator, the seasonal temperature changes are not extreme. However, the best time to visit Kenya's parks are during the dry seasons (January - March & July - October) and the best time to enjoy Kenya's beaches are from December - March. Thus, my dream vacation will take place after my fourth year of university in January 2015. My dream vacation to Kenya will include 2 of my favourite things: 1) Animals & 2) Beaches. For this reason, I have chosen an itinerary to equally incorporate both. According to the Leisure Paradox, We are never truly in sync - when we have the most time to travel, we tend to have the least money, yet the more we work the less time there is to travel. Therefore, I plan on saving money now & taking my dream vacation right after university - January 2015 is the perfect time! What's In Store For The Week Fun & Adventure: WHY AFRICA? Kenya has an endless array of activities. It is the world center for animal safaris & active adventure holidays. Some main activities include: wildlife safaris, bird watching, mountain biking, snorkeling, mountain climbing, and more! Remarkable Beauty: Incredible Animals: The most famous Animals in Kenya are known as 'The Big 5': Lions, Leopards, Elephants, Buffalos and Rhinos. Experiencing all of these animals in their natural habitats (not at home or at a zoo) sounds fascinating! Culture: Kenya's culture is very diverse. Kenyans exhibit a great sense of unity, peace, acceptance and closeness. They are warm, friendly, and hospitable. It is said that one "arrives as a visitor and leaves as a friend." This unique culture is very appealing to me as it is distinct from the culture here in North America. Awareness: As I grow up, I believe that it is important to experience the world and learn from different cultures. Through my trip to Africa I hope to be one step closer to achieving Maslow's self-actualization. Yes, of course going to somewhere like Bora Bora or the Bahamas is a dream vacation to most. However, to me, tropical locations do not embody what I want to get out of my dream vacation...... The Rest of the World Kenya I grew up watching Disney Movies. The Lion King, set in the Prides of Africa, has always been my favourite out of them all. When I was younger, I used to go to the Royal Alexandra Theatre in Toronto with my mom to see the Lion King production. Traveling to Africa would bring back many special childhood memories. I absolutely LOVE animals! Considering Kenya is the home of the wildlife safari, and offers some of the best game viewing in the world, this wonderful destination has always been at the top of my bucket list. Nairobi is the Capital of Kenya Going to Africa would be a good opportunity to reflect on life and gain a better appreciation for what I have. I have always wanted to be surrounded by the warm hearts and smiles of the people within Africa and the culture in general. As an 'explorer' I am always up for a new adventure. And this trip is different from anything I have ever done in the past! Places I've Been As A Tourist 1. New York 2003
