Ivory Billed woodpecker A little bit about... Ecosystem ...The Ivory Billed Woodpecker. The Ivory Billed wood pecker is the most endangered animal in the WORLD!!! It is also the largest woodpecker above Mexico and third largest in the world! With a wing span of 30in. and a body length of 20in. It is huge. Endangered: danger of becoming extinct. Despite its name the Ivory Billed Woodpecker is not hunted for their beaks but for its feathers. Huge decline in 1800 because of hunting led to almost extinction. After that a bounty of $10 000 was placed if someone could make proof that it was alive. In 2005 some reported sightings started coming in, all from the same area. Nobody knows how many are left in the world:( Why it's Endangered Kingdom: Animalia
Phylum: Chordata
Class: Aves
Order: Piciformes
Family: Picidae
Genus: Campephilus
Species: Campephilus pricipalis Classification Connections to The World The Ivory billed woodpeckers ecosystem is in the southeastern part of the U.S.A. It mainly lives in swamps or wet areas. It eats Beatles that they find in rotten trees. there homes are made from old holes made from where they have searched for food. Habitat This is a map of where the Ivory Billed Woodpecker lives. The T.V. show in the 1950's, Woodie The Woodpecker, Woodie, the main character is an Ivory billed woodpecker. The closest relative to the Ivory billed woodpecker is the Imperial woodpecker. The Ivory billed woodpecker's call is almost exactly like one of a Blue Jay's except the last note is lower. Biodiversity Biodiversity is the link between all living things. The Ivory billed woodpecker was almost wiped out and that would upset the balance within its ecosystem. I know this because what the Ivory billed woodpecker ate would grow out of control. That is how biodiversity effects my animal. Adaptations The adaptations of the Ivory billed woodpecker are, the red area on the back of its head to show that its a male. Its also really good at hiding (if it can stay hidden from humans for that long its good at hiding)! It has a sharp beak to cut through wood and lots of dark feathers to blend in with the shadows.
