Transcript of End Times
Author is John
on the island of Patmos
PATMOS is a small rocky island off the southwest coast of Asia Minor where the apostle John wrote the Book of Revelation. The barren and desolate island, about ten miles long and six miles wide, was used by the Romans as a place to house prisoners. Because Christians were regarded as criminals by Roman emperor Domitian (ruled 81-96 A.D.), the apostle John probably suffered from harsh treatment during his time on Patmos. Early tradition places John in exile for 18 months.
7 churches of Asia Minor
Around 70 AD John lived in Ephesus and worked with a number of churches in Asia Minor, including the 7 mentioned in Revelation
Anti-Christian attitudes and persecution from Rome brought heavy tribulation upon these churches
John writes to encourage the 7 churches and systematically reveal God’s plans for the last days
Apocalyptic literature reveals information previously unknown that could not be known apart from the unveiling. Some interpret it as literally as possible and others see detail as symbolic.
Either way it's typically referring to the future world and the victory and reign of Christ.
The Revelation of Jesus Christ in His future Glory
1:3 Blessed are those who “read and heed” the things written- John tells the readers to both understand and obey
1:8 Jesus is referred to as the “Alpha and Omega”- the first and last letters of the Greek alphabet, describing His eternality
1:11 The 1st of 12 times John is commanded to write what he sees- Revelation was meant to be recorded and read
1:12 The 7 golden lamp stands = the 7 churches (see 1:20)
1:20 The 7 stars = the “angels” of the 7 churches (in this case, angel may refer to a messenger and not an angelic being)
dark ages church?
To each church John writes 5 things:
1. Christ- reference to His attributes or abilities
2. Commendation- area of success
3. Rebuke- area of failure
4. Exhortation- instruction or warning
5. Promise- assurance given to those who “overcome”
Ephesus- “I will grant to eat of the tree of life which is in the Paradise of God. (Rev 2:7b)
Smyrna- “Shall not be hurt by the second death.” (Rev 2:11b)
Pergamum- “I will give some of the hidden manna, and I will give him a white stone, and a new name written on the stone which no ones knows but he who receives it.” (Rev 2:17b)
Thyatira- “To him I will give authority over the nations…and I will give him the the morning star. (Rev 2:26,28)
Sardis- “Shall be clothed in white garments; and I will not erase his name from the book of life, and I will confess his name before My Father, and before His angels. (Rev 3:5)
Philadelphia- “I will make him a pillar in the temple of my God and he will not go out from it anymore; and I will write upon him the name of My God, and the name of the city of My God, the new Jerusalem…and My new name. (Rev 3:12)
Laodicea- “I will grant to him to sit down with Me on My throne, as I also overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne.” (Rev 3:21)
The book of Revelation is mostly prophecy. As with all prophecy nobody can be 100% certain of their interpretation until the prophecy has been fulfilled. When reading Revelation we are really all flying blind.
We must wear special glasses to understand Revelation. Depending on which pair you wear you will see something different.
But no matter what glasses you wear the ending remains the same…
The Millennium (Latin for 1,000):
The 1,000 year reign of Jesus Christ on earth, in fulfillment of O.T. prophecy
Isaiah 11, 49, 60, 62, 66
Zephaniah 1, 3
Jeremiah 30-31, 33
Zechariah 3:11-13; 9:9-10; 12; 14:16-21
Ezekiel 34-37, 39-48
The events of the Tribulation and the 2nd Coming occur before the Millennium
There is no literal millennium- Jesus fully reigns now and will return at the end (this includes some Preterists)
Christ returns after a successful grace millennium of symbolically ruling through His church (this includes some Preterists)
The Tribulation (from Daniel’s 70th week):
The 7 year period of time in which “there will be distress such as never occurred since there was a nation until that time” (Daniel 12:1b)
This is requires a Gap Theory understanding of Daniel's 70 weeks
The Great Tribulation (Jacob's Trouble):
The final 3.5 years of the Tribulation- the judgments intensify.
The rapture of the church occurs before the Tribulation begins
The rapture of the church occurs at the midpoint of the Tribulation
The rapture of the church occurs at the end of the Tribulation. Sometimes called no rapture view.
Pre-Wrath Tribulation view:
The first six seals are Satan’s Wrath and the church remains until the rapture just before God’s Wrath in the seventh seal
What glasses should I wear?
That choice is up to you.
The Scene in Heaven
The 24 elders represent N.T. believers who have received their crowns and new bodies
The 24 elders are Christ’s first fruits who were raised to life with Jesus (Matt. 27:50-53)
The 7 Spirits of God = mystery, possibly the Holy Spirit’s fullness
7 is the number of God (perfection)
The 4 living creatures = angels (cherubim?)
The elders cast their crowns before the throne.
God the Father holds a scroll with 7 seals
Jesus is viewed as both the Lion of Judah (power) and a Lamb (sacrifice)- He has 7 horns (power) and 7 eyes (wisdom)
Jesus is the only one worthy to open the seals
The judgments of Revelation are organized into 3 groups of 7: seals, trumpets, bowls
A suggested chronology of the judgments is the “telescopic arrangement”
People have made all kinds of end times charts and graphs. They all are so confusing they will make your head spin…
Wouldn’t it be easier just to break it down one piece at a time?
Let’s go in order as we can best surmise.
The following is the futurist literalist POV.
The very first thing in your end times picture would be the rapture of the Christian believers from the earth...if it's Pre-Trib
“For the coming of the son of man will be just like the days of Noah. For as in those days which were before the flood they were eating and drinking, they were marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, and they did not understand until the flood came and took them all away, so shall the coming of the son of man be. Then there shall be two men in the field; one will be taken and one will be left. Two women will be grinding at the mill; one will be taken and the other will be left..
Believers are wed to Jesus
There is a great wedding feast
This likely happens in heaven after rapture
The bema judgment could happen at this time as well or at same time as great white throne judgment.
If that is the case, all believers on earth meet Jesus in the sky right now on your timeline, of course they do not precede the dead (RotD).
A suggested structure for
Part 1: chapters 4-10
the judgment (Tribulation) period with an emphasis on events
Part 2: chapters 11-19
the judgment (Tribulation) period with an emphasis on people
White horse: The conqueror arrives
Bow= passive conqueror
Many literalists call the rider the beast.
Futurist Literalist Say:
Matt 24:4-5: Jesus speaks of those claiming to be the Messiah. These prototypes could lead up to one Anti-Messiah.
Dan 7:23-25: fierce king arises out of 10 kingdoms, master of deception
Dan 9:27a: He will confirm a treaty with the people ( which includes Israel) for a period of One set of Seven (seven years).
(Rev 6:3-4) Red horse: war peace removed from the earth
Some see Daniel 11:40-45 prophecies of the Beast's warpath.
Matt 24:6,7: Jesus told us wars would break out far and near
Possible place for the prophecy of Ezekiel 38 but it isn’t necessary here. (Maybe is was fulfilled long ago?)
This prophecy may take place before the holy treaty. It might actually provide the motivation to set up the treaty
(Ezekiel 38) Gog and Magog (evil Alliance) team up with Persia (Iran), Ethiopia (N. Sudan), Libya, Gomer (Northeast Asia), and Beth-togarmah(Turkey) to attack Israel when it is at peace. Sheba and Dedan (India) and the merchants of Tarshish (Britain or Spain) will question the attack.
God intervenes on attack sending an earthquake, confusion, disease, hailstones, and fire and sulfur!
(Rev 6:5,6) Black horse: famine & inflation one day’s wages = one meal
“Don’t hurt the oil and wine” could mean Christians protected from famine somehow.
This would give reason for increased Christian hatred.
Oil & Wine could also be literal
Matt 24:7,8 Jesus tells us of famine and earthquakes as beginning of horrors to come
(Rev 6:7,8) Ashen horse (pale): death ¼ of the earth destroyed
1/4th earth killed by violence, famine, disease, and wild animal attacks
6.7 billion – 1.6 billion = 5.1 billion people left
Even the beast himself could be hit by this onslaught!
The Beast= many assume is a political ruler
He receives his power from Satan
The 7 heads (is thought by many to) represent the 7 continents
The 10 horns represent 10 kings/kingdoms who give authority to the beast
The Beast is “killed” but Satan restores him to life (mimic Christ’s resurrection?)
The Beast is worshiped by “earth dwellers”
(Rev 13:3-8) Given authority for 42 months. His last 42 (1,260 days)
Halfway through treaty the Beast breaks his end of the deal
Stops all worship except worship of himself
2 Thess 2:3-5 Paul writes of a man of lawlessness would set himself up as god before the day of the lord
Literal: The restoration of Jewish worship and sacrifices must be set up before this date in order for it to be stopped.
Figurative: The temple of God is now the Christian church body and we worship others.
False Prophet Arises
The False Prophet= assumed to be the religious ruler
The False Prophet is another beast of the same kind and nature
The False Prophet promotes worldwide worship of the Beast using signs
That was the first half of a futurist literal seven year tribulation...not bad right?
Abomination of Desolation
Some sort of abomination is set up in the temple
Dan 9:27 this abomination occurs at the same time as covenant break
Matt 24:23-25 Jesus warned to not follow others claiming to be the Messiah. He said the deception will be strong
Two individuals prophesy for 3 ½ years.
Nobody can harm them
“from the time the daily sacrifice is taken away and the sacrilegious object that cause desecration is set up to be worshiped, there will be 1,290 days. And blessed are those who wait and remain until the 1,335 days!”
30 days added first = for mourning?
45 days added second = for cleansing?
more days revealed
Mark of the Beast
The False Prophet is also in charge of the economic system
The False Prophet promotes a mark on the right hand or forehead associated with the number of man (666 or 616)
False prophet requires all mankind to take a mark on the right hand or forehead
You can’t buy or sell anything without it
Care is given to Israel in the wilderness for 1,260 days
Matt 24:16-22 Jesus tell those in Judea to flee to the hills at this time. Don’t even grab your coat. Hope you don’t have to care for a baby.
“For that will be a time of great horror than anything the world has ever seen or will ever see again. In fact, unless that time of calamity is shortened, the entire human race will be destroyed. But it will be shortened for the sake of the elect.”
Micah 2:12-14 Speaks of a gathering of Israel in a sheep fold of protection, and the Lord would lead them out
Isaiah 63:1 describes Jesus coming out of Bozrah (Petra) with stained red clothing, announcing (physical)salvation. This occurs after the final battle.
Could Israel find safety in the rocks of Petra? Zechariah 13:7-9 says 1/3 of Israel will be rescued.
Ministry of the 3
Angel #1 – warns people to turn to God before it’s too late
Matt 24:14 Jesus said the good news would be preached everywhere throughout the world and then the end would come.
Angel #2 – Warns God’s enemies are about to get it. (long version rev 18)
Angel #3 – warns not to worship the beast or take his mark. Hell to pay
Spirits of Martyrs for Jesus allegorically ask for His vengeance
They were be-headed by the beast
Matt 24:9-13 Jesus said believers would be arrested, persecuted, and killed. Hated all over the world because of Him. And that those who endured till the end would be saved (physically).
Rev 17:6 Allegory of Babylon prostitute drunk on the blood of the holy saints
Who are these Christians being killed if the rapture already took place?
1. they are people who trusted in Jesus after the rapture overcoming the strong delusion (2 Thess 2:11) that is so strong it could, if possible, trick the elect (Matt 24:24)
2. The rapture hasn’t happened yet and its just standard Christians (us)
Saints killed for their faith
Worldwide earthquake sun becomes black, moon turns to blood man will think it’s the end of the world
Sun dark as black cloth
Moon red as blood
Matt 24:29 Jesus said after those horrible days end the sun will go dark, the moon will not give light, the stars will fall and earth will shake
Cosmic disturbances Day of the Lord
The word "wrath" doesn’t appear in the book of revelation until here…
Matt 24:30-31 Trumpet blast and gathered elect
Rev 7:9-17 vast crowd appears in heaven from every tongue and tribe, they join the elders in praising god and the lamb
John asks where did this crowd come from, he is told from the tribulation.
Wherever the rapture may fall Rom 5:9, 1 Thess 1:10,5:9 tell us believers will not face Gods judgments and wrath!
Sky rolls back
God on His throne looks down
All mankind tries to hide
Great day of wrath has come
It’s day of the Lord time!
What’s in that seventh and final seal? Oh it’s the trumpet and bowl/vial judgments
12,000 from the 12 tribes of Israel
Protected by God during the Tribulation for some purpose
They are sealed (protected) before the storm. Rev 7:1-8
Fulfilling Ezekiel 9?
Who are they?
12,000 from each tribe
Most likely literal Jews and Samaritans. Could either be from the living today or from the righteous dead resurrected.
They are called first fruits (Rev 14:4-5) and undefiled.
½ hour of silence in heaven
beginning of the trumpet judgments
30 minutes of silence- awkward
Fire thrown upon earth
Zeph 1:7 mentions silence before Gods awesome judgments
1/3 of the trees and all grass destroyed by hail and fire =decrease in oxygen
Volcano thrown into the sea
1/3 water turned to blood
1/3 sea animals died
1/3 ships at sea destroyed before the storm
less ocean water = limiting the rainfall process
Flaming star crashes into earth
1/3 rivers & springs polluted by star
Star is named Wormwood
People die from bitter water
=worldwide water shortage
1/3 sun goes black
1/3 moon goes black
1/3 of stars go out
More darkness per day
Less solar light=limiting potential new growth
"The First Terror/Woe"
Bottomless pit unlocked by Satan
Locust with scorpion tails come out
Attack and torture but do not kill for 5 months
People want to die but the can’t!
Ministry of the eagle
Warning of "terror, terror, terror" or "woe, woe, woe"
That can't be good
Look like war-horses
Their king is Apollyon = Destroyer = Satan
"The Second Terror/Woe"
4 fallen angels locked at Euphrates river released
They kill 1/3 of all living on earth, that gets us to about 3 billion.
Fallen angels on horses dressed in fiery red, sky blue, and yellow. Horses heads look like lions, fire breathing. Violent snake tails.
After all of this, the “earth dwellers” do not repent!
Angel with rainbow over his head, shiny sun like face, stands with one foot on the sea and one on land, shouts like a lions roar and release the mysterious 7 thunders!
“When the seven thunders spoke, I was about to write. But a voice from heaven called to me; ‘keep secret what the seven thunders said. Do not write it down.”
After 3 ½ years, the beast kills them with his Satanic power and they are left on the street in Jerusalem for
3 ½ days.
They will be refused burial, people will exchange gifts to celebrate their death, maybe thinking they killed God.
God resurrects them, takes them to heaven, and unleashes an earthquake that destroys a tenth of the city
Rev 11:12,13 God shouts, “come up here” and they are raptured.
Shouts from heaven that the earth is now the Lords
24 elders bow down
Nations enraged at Gods wrath
Mention of judgment of dead coming
Heavens temple opened- ark appears
Lightning, thunder, earthquake, hailstorm
This is probably the end of 7 year tribulation-
Remember those extra 30 days of mourning? God goes bowling
Sores (foul boils or ulcers) on the bodies of those who worship the Beast and/or have the mark.
Sea becomes like blood- every living thing in the sea dies
Rivers and springs become like blood.
Water is now endangered. Too harsh? Water angel approves
Rev 16:5-7 “You are just in sending this judgment”
“Earth dwellers” scorched by the sun- they do not repent
Utter darkness cast over Beasts kingdom.
“Earth dwellers” gnaw their tongues in pain, but do not repent
The Euphrates River dries up- this allows the armies of the Beast to mobilize quickly for war
Also allows kingdoms from the east to enter Middle East to wage war.
The Beast and False Prophets religious, political, & commercial systems face disaster
Babylon = Beast’s system (Babel)
Rev 17 predicts the destruction of religious Babylon
Rev 18 predicts a decline of political commercial Babylon
v. 4-5 warn us to escape this system
World’s response to collapse? Weeping (v.11-17), devastated (v. 17-19), Heaven rejoices (v. 20) ramp up to war!
All the grand armies of the world are furious with Gods judgments and they meet to take him out (and possibly the 7 shepherds with Him).
They are gathered by the frog demons that come from the mouths of Satan, the Beast, and the FP.
Armageddon (Har-Megiddo) is a gathering place NOT an event or even a battle.
Great earthquake accompanied by hailstones up to 100 pounds in size- again, the “earth dwellers” do not repent!
Shout “It is finished!”
Thunder crash, lightning flash
Biggest earthquake ever
Babylon split in 3- cities turn to rubble
144,000 return to God- Rev 14:1-5
144,000 sing a special song in heaven to God
The Marriage Supper of the Lamb is announced (Hallelujah= praise to God)
Christ is pictured as Warrior and Judge, accompanied by His armies (angels, glorified believers, or both)
The Beast, False Prophet, and kings of the earth with their armies have gathered at Megiddo
White horsed army
Lead Rider named Faithful and True
Eyes like fire
Wearing many crowns
Secret name, Word of God, King of Kings, Lord of Lords
Blood stained clothes
Mouth sword strikes down the nations
Sun angel calls vultures to eat the fallen kings, captains, warriors, horses, and riders, all humanity, free and slave, small and great
Everybody (except the protected remnant of Israel and their Shepherds?)
The earthly armies are completely destroyed by Christ- He speaks, they die!
Beast and false prophet thrown straight into lake of fire and sulfur- no trial
Isaiah 63:1-6 Jesus rescues the people at Petra(Bozrah) or possibly destroys Bozrah for denying Israel
Jesus says- “I have trodden the winepress alone; no one was there to help me. In my anger I have trampled my enemies as if they were grapes.”
Son of man sitting on a cloud with a sickle
He harvests the earth- rapture? (This would be a place for the post-trib rapture)
Angel of death sickles the grapes – wrath?
Blood flood from the winepress in a stream about 180 miles long as high as a horses bridle – likely the aftermath of Day of the Lord judgment.
Wait! There could still be those 45 extra days.
45 days of cleansing-Dan 12:11-12
Satan locked up- Rev 20:1-3
An angel (Michael?) binds Satan in chains for 1,000 years
The 1,000 year earthly reign of Christ begins as Satan is bound and cast into the abyss (bottomless pit)
Satan cannot affect or deceive the nations for the entire Millennium
Multiple thrones – judges
Tribulation saints and the bride of Christ reign with Jesus for 1,000 years (Dan 7:18,27)
Over who? The remnant of Israel? Resurrected saints of all nation? Surviving Gentiles? (Is 13:12, 24:6)
Zechariah 8:23 speaks of 10 Gentiles following the Jewish survivors to God.
Rest of dead were not raised= unbelievers
1,000 years to God is 6 verses to man. Any other info?
Everybody knows the Lord even if they don't worship Him
Jerusalem's walls will be rebuilt and it's gates left open (Is. 60)
Common language again (Zephaniah 3:9)
Adults will live full lives. Dying at 100 is for youths.(Is 65:20-24)
People build houses and plant vineyards
Jesus will rule with rod of iron
(Micah 4:3-4, Rev 2)
Ezekiel 40-46 New temple built for the Jews (tabernacle of David)? Many futurist literalists believe this.
David rules as Israel’s Prince (Ez. 37:21-28). Former shepherds of the flock of Israel will hand the sheep over to him. (Ez. 34)
Both (North) Israel and (South) Judah are restored
Nations who refuse to worship Jesus will have no rain (Zec. 14:17) Two prophets describe Egypt's lack of faith to cause the Nile to dry up!
Jewish mortals will believe and worship (Is. 11). The 4th, 5th, 7th, and 10th month's Sabbaths will be festivals and Gentiles will follow Israelites to Jerusalem, called City of Truth. (Zech 8)
Zechariah 14 Feast of Booths festival is observed by all
Super river flows out of Jerusalem that makes the Dead Sea living! (Ez 47:1-12)
Where’s Satan again? Oh right locked up. Without his influence and with Jesus on the throne the mortals will still sin but they won’t revolt.
Is. 35:6-7, 51:3, 55:13; Ez. 36:34-35;
It’s kinda like Eden-lite. Eden was great until Satan showed up. Satan ruins this Eden experience as well.
After the Millennium, Satan is released, and he turns the nations against Christ
He leads them to attack the holy city
What nations? The unbelieving Gentiles? Or something else?
Then God destroys them with fire from heaven!
Devil get's his due! Satan the betrayer is sent to the lake of fire forever! For the 1st time in his existence he experiences the torment of the lake of fire and sulfur.
This judgment, reserved for unbelievers only, begins with the destruction of the old heavens and earth. (2 Pet 3:10-12)
There exists a book, the book of life, containing the names of those who believe
There also exist books, listing the deeds of unbelievers
The deeds listed in the books, along with the fact that his/her name is not listed in the book of life, causes an unbeliever to be cast into the lake of fire
This passage may suggest the existence of degrees of eternal torment (not “levels of hell”, but varying degrees of punishment, because of the deeds in the books)
In O.T. prophecy God highlights some especially horrible acts that will get severe judgment. Selling children for prostitute and wine is one example.
New Heaven & New Earth
Old heaven and earth gone, new heaven and earth created
2 Pet 3:10 explains heaven and earths destruction
Some people believe this describes the earth turning into a giant fireball serving as the like of fire.
Why is heaven destroyed? Because sin actually entered into the universe in heaven when Satan rebelled and caused the first war. The heaven of today is scarred by sin as well.
Isaiah 65:17 new heaven & earth so cool we will forget the old
Yet at the same time nothing we do for Christ in this life in vain, it transfers over into the next somehow. (1 Cor 15:58)
1 Corinthians 15:24-28
“then comes the end (of time, beginning of eternity), when He delivers up the kingdom to God the Father, when He has abolished all rule and all authority and power. For He must reign until He has put all His enemies under His feet. The last enemy that will be abolished is death...
“…And when all things are subjected to Him, then the Son Himself also will be subjected to the One who subjected all things to Him, that God may be all in all
The holy city New Jerusalem comes down to new earth from new heaven.
God again lives among His people!
-no tears -no death
-no mourning -no pain

-walls 1,500 miles square
-City inside pure glassy gold
-Streets of pure glassy gold
-No temple, no church
-No sun, no moon
-God’s glory is the light
-There is no night
- Only Lambs Book of life members may enter
-River of life inside

with trees of life on each side
The Father, Spirit, and Son will live together with the Bride (the Church) forever and ever.
“Behold I am coming quickly and My reward is with Me, to render to everyman according to what he has done.
I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end.”
“Blessed are those who wash their robes, that they may have the right to the tree of life and may enter by the gates into the city.” Rev 22:14
“Amen Come, Lord Jesus.” Rev 22:20b
Whose side are you on?
While the offer is still on the table...
The problem with Petra being a safe haven “sheepfold” for the Jewish Remnant is that it sits in Jordan an unfriendly country for Jews.
So another theory explaining bloody Jesus coming out of it in the end is this…
The Jews flee to Petra, and it is NOT safe for Israel. The Jordanians do not permit safety for them (granting them Beast conquering immunity), so they go back and hide in the hills of Israel for 3.5 years.
Or possibly rescued by the great eagle of Revelation 12, possibly fulfilling the "two sticks" of Ezekiel 37:16-19.
Then Jesus goes and slays the people of Jordan for not allowing there safe keeping in their time of trial.
Daniel 11: 41: "He (Beast?) shall enter also into the glorious land, and many countries shall be overthrown: but these shall escape out of his hand, even Edom, and Moab, and the chief of the children of Ammon."
This combo makes up modern day Jordan where Petra is located. Scholars believe this is the safe place in the wilderness. A few others say they will be rescued from mountaintop by airplane via Rev. 12:14
To be fair...just as it is possible for this war to kick off a holy treaty at the beginning of the tribulation, it's also possible for this war to be connected to the last war (Armageddon). (It could be heavily symbolic or historically fulfilled.)
Who is the beast?
He will be of seven kings, himself being the eighth who was and is not (Rev 17:10-11)
He will have 10 kings rule with him for one hour (Rev 17:12)
He will be the little horn among 10 who subdues 3 (Daniel 7:7-8)
He will be a king of skilled intrigue (Dan 8:23)
He will come in his own name (John 5:43)
He will have the authority or name of a specific number (Rev 13:17,18)
He will come from the kingdom of iron and clay (Dan 9:26)
He will be proud and confident (Dan 8:25, 11:37)
He will not regard the God of his forefathers (Dan 11:37)
He will by peace destroy many (Dan 8:25)
He will be beast from the sea (Rev 13:1, Dan 7:3)
What is the Beasts kingdom?
We can begin to discover this by looking back at a
dream by King Nebuchadnezzar in ancient Babylon
as interpreted by Daniel (Chp 2)
A statue was seen representing a great many things.
<--Iron & Clay
Head was the Kings kingdom of Babylon
Alexander the Great's Kingdom (4)
of the Anti-Christ
In the days of those kings God sets up the eternal Kingdom of Jesus
A stone cut from a mountain without hands (By God) crushed the entire statue...gold on down. (v.45)
This represents the Kingdom's as one man to be destroyed by God in the future. Very well could mean the Beast's Kingdom of Iron & Clay along with the pieces of the rest.
Babylon was in modern Iraq
Medo-Persians were from modern Iran
The Four nations of Alexander were Egypt, Syria, Macedonia & Thrace. Today we still have Egypt and Syria. Macedonia & Thrace is made of of Greece, Yugoslavia, Bulgaria and Turkey.
Roman Empire encompasses the modern day European Union
These nations may be part of the Beasts kingdom
Comparing this dream to the one in Daniel 7
we can discover that the four beasts represent the same four kingdoms coming before the final kingdom.
4 headed Leopard- Alexander's 4
Iron teethed beast with 10 horns- Rome
(v.8) A little horn came up among the 10 horns, and 3 of the horns were pulled out, the little horn had the eyes of a man and a mouth uttering great boasts.
This little boastful horn could be the Anti-Christ coming up out of the 10 who are now 7.
OR IS HE?
Another interpretation...the Beast personified was a horn, and the other kings were horns, the heads were nations or even continents. It's possible a nation will be revived from a great defeat.
Remember the four Beasts of
Daniel? They appear together as one Beast allegory in Revelation 13. In which this beast has seven heads one of which had been slain, but then revived (v.3)
(v.14-15) The False Prophet erects an idol of the beast, breathing life into it causing it to communicate- people must worship the idol or die.
Or...the False Prophet breathes life into the vision of the beast (worshiping Satan)- people must be this image or die.
Some say they will be Moses & Elijah because they
had super powers on earth and appeared on the Mount of Transfiguration.
Some say it will be Elijah & Enoch because neither one of them has died.
Malachi 4:5 speaks of Elijah the prophet coming before the Day of the Lord.
Jesus said John the Baptist came in the Spirit of Elijah. Maybe these witnesses are like that.
It's possible this could coincide
with a Pre-Wrath rapture.
To line up the timing the trumpets
and bowls would have to be unleashed

If Micah's 7 shepherds are a final days prophecy at some point the Anti-Christ
will have been pushed out of
Israel by "7 shepherds"
and he will rally his allies
presumably against the 7
8 princes of men (the 8th being Christ?)
For those of you who have subscribed to the
forgiving love of Jesus Christ we look forward to our Blessed Hope and the day we enter His presence
with joyful noise.

Nobody will teach (Jer 31) except King Jesus (Micah 4)
Weapons will be turned into tools, war training will cease, everyone will have their own land. (Micah 4)
No hunger, no thirst, no sun blistering days, no false prophets (Is. 49, Zech 13)
Smallest people will grow into clans, people consider the least will become nations. (Is. 60)
Animals of all kinds will change behavior...(Is. 11)
-Wolves will dwells with lambs
-Leopards will take naps with goats
-Baby cows and lions with get along with each other and play with children
-Cows and bears will graze together
-Baby cows and baby bears will play together
-Lion will eat like ox instead of ox
-Baby humans will play with vipers and cobras
Why might you hold to some literal elements? Revelation describes the consummation of everything Genesis introduces. If you believe in a literal Genesis it makes sense to have a literal Revelation. If you believe in literal Exodus plagues, it makes sense to have literal plagues of Revelation.

Unfortunately it is difficult to know John's POV so we are left to post-modern selections of interpretations.
The Amillennial View of Revelation features
Revelation contains 7 distinct sections which are chronologically parallel to each other.
Each section traces the development of events from Christ's first advent to His second. When you reach the end of a section, you simply roll back several thousands of years and start over-reading a new perspective on the same historical events, each section goes a little bit further than the last.
1,000 year reign = period of time between advents of Jesus
Symbolism rule= The dragon isn't literal but the Devil he represents is.
Satan is bound from deceiving nations
Amillennialist see Revelation 20:11-13 as the physical resurrection of both righteous and unrighteous.
They see v.4 as a spiritual resurrection as spirit in heaven.
1. Christ has won the decisive victory over sin, death, and Satan. The most important day in history is the resurrection not the second coming. Because of the victory of Jesus, the ultimate issues of history have already been decided. It is only a question of time until that victory is brought to its final consummation with a new earth.
2. The Kingdom= founded by Jesus on earth, in operation now, revealed in fullness later. Not the expected literal throne of David.
3. Last days = Entire era between Christ first and second comings.
4. "Signs of the times"= present and future relevance
5. Second coming of Jesus is a single event, not two phases (rapture/second coming)
6. At Christ's return, there will be a general resurrection of both righteous and not.
7. After resurrection, believers who are then still alive shall be transformed and glorified.
8. The 'rapture' happens now to believers when they die.
9. Day of the Lord= one single judgment day with one single judgment.
10. Final state= Unbelievers in LOF, believers on new earth.
Amillennialism's Positive Implications...
1. What binds the OT and NT together is the unity of the covenant of grace.
2. The Kingdom of God is central to human history.
3. Jesus Christ is the Lord of history.
4. All history is moving toward a goal: the total redemption of the universe.
New Testament Scholar N.T. Wright's Amillennial interpretation of the book of Revelation (from a presentation at Duke Divinity School)...
Chp 5- Lamb is worthy...He has conquered.
Chp. 20- Heaven & Earth converge
Chp. 4-5 are not some glorious future it's heaven now.
Up to Chp. 12 is a wild ride for judgments with the church hanging on and worshiping.
Chp. 12 onward we discover Satan's plan to undermine God
God rules the world through His Son the Lamb
Satan attempts to rule the world through his beast and his henchmen
Chp. 13 borrows from Daniel 7
Chp. 17 the whore of Babylon
2 main concerns John has about the beast...
1) Idolatrous worship
2) Excessive economic
Chp. 18 the whore parodied with the church
She mixes power, sex, and money in her empire.
Mark of the Beast= separation of religion and politics
Politically by pushing God out
Scientifically with Neo-Epicureanism
We cannot read Revelation and assume that non-tyrannical governments are eternities answer to corruption.
We must stand for truth rather than collude with the dragon
The Christian hope is not to escape to heaven. If I'm looking to escape then I will separate from the world prematurely. If I separate far enough I collude with the dragon & permit evil governments advances.
Historical Revelation View
7 seals= from John to 4th century or from John to modern era
7 trumpets= 1-4 (pagan invasions of Western Christendom in 5th century) 5-6 (Assualt on Eastern Christendom during Middle ages)
Angel with little book in Chp. 10 represent Reformation and printing of Bibles.
2 witnesses= Christian movements (Reformers or French Revolution)
(First Century Fulfillment) Preterist View
The Great Tribulation= fall of Israel
The Great Apostasy= 1st century
The Last Days= From Jesus ascension to fall of Jerusalem
The Beast= Emperor
The Second Coming= The Lord on the clouds in judgment on Jerusalem in 70 AD
The False Prophet= Leader of apostate
The Great Harlot= Jerusalem
The Millennium= Started at the cross
1,000 years= rounded off number for 'fullness'
New Creation= salvation
New Jerusalem= Church
Armageddon= symbol of defeat
Does this speak of Israels tribulation
There is of course a fair alternative Mystery Kingdom. Rome during Pax Romana with weaker governors maintaining peace could be represented by Iron and Clay.
This requires no such time gap.
But this offers no help at determining the Kingdom of the Beast in Revelation.
Or Pax Romana and all human government. Jesus did rise again as King of Heaven during Pax Romana
Or Daniel doesn't speak of the Beasts Kingdom
GIANT TIME GAP????????
Others see historical fulfillment of Daniel 11 in
the Selucid and Egyptian wars inbetween OT and NT.
When you read Daniel 9 in context it requires a giant time gap from Jesus death & resurrection to this future treaty. Also you have to assume the 'he' is now the Anti-Christ and not the Christ. Also you have to assume that the "firm covenant with many" is a peace treaty with Israel.
It could be Jesus making the new covenant. And ending sacrifices with His own death. If so, you suddenly lose the seven year parameters for the tribulation and you lose a treaty and you might lose a future temple.
Again, or not at all. It could be Jesus death ending all sacrifices 3.5 years into His ministry followed by the first 3.5 years of the Holy Spirits ministry until the Gospel spread to the Gentile world.
Jesus might not have been referencing anything more than the sacking of Jerusalem by the Romans in the first century.
Jesus said John the Baptist was Elijah if you can accept it. This implies that Malachi is possibly fulfilled.
If Daniel 12 is referencing the Antioch Epiphanies situation in Daniel 11 again rather than the Daniel 9 covenant breaking then we must remove this passages applicability here.
Jesus could have been
speaking of escaping the fall of Jerusalem and thus not end times at all.
And still others say Daniel 11 is an Antioch Epiphanies reference.
Symbolism= Using how the word white is used in the Bible, it typically means something good. You could say the first rider is good.
Earthquake could be symbolic for shaking up security. Sun and moon can be symbols of authority in human governments. Stars can represent spiritual powers. Heaven departing could indicate a removal of spiritual powers or ethical inhibitors. Mountains and islands are symbols of nations and governments. Things being moved is a symbol of turnover in government.

Symbolism= Blood & hail used in OT for judgment. Trees represented people. This could remind us of the 3rd day of creation and 7th plague of Egypt.
Symbolism= Mountains are frequently symbols of nations. Fire is often war. Sea is often foreign peoples. Ships may mean people's material possessions. This hearkens back to the 1st Exodus plague and the 5th day of creation.
Symbolism= Great star could be a false messenger. Bad waters could be false truths. This hearkens back to the 2nd and 3rd days of creation and the first plague.
Symbolism- Darkness is symbolic for disaster and blindness regarding truth. This hearkens back to the 1st and 4th of creation and the 9th plague.
Symbolism= Abyss could represent mysteries or Satan's so called deep things of Satan. This unleashes demonic oppression on earth.
This hearkens back to the 6th day of Creation and the 8th plague of Exodus.
Symbolism= Four symbolizes "All" (Four corners of earth). More demonic oppression but now to death. 200 million could be an exaggerated number. Fire from their mouths could be power and their tails license to deceive.
Symbolism= The 2 witness could represent the Old and New Testaments personified.
Symbolism: Earth can mean general population. Boils can represent painful trials.
Symbolism: Seas can represent foreigners.
Symbolism: Rivers (formerly assumed to be false doctrine) now die.
Symbolism: Fire can mean war.
Symbolism: Darkness can mean despair. Gnawing tongues can mean people are over stressed.
Symbolism: Euphrates was a barrier river for Babylon. It's draining was it's fall. This draining foretells another fall. If Babylon represents those world's governments then the Euphrates might represent it's assets. The river drying could represent cash flow drying. The Kings of the East, like the Magi, could represent Gentile believers or unbelievers.
Symbolism= Hailstones repre
Symbolism= 144,000 and 12,000 are symbolic numbers for completion. The sealed people are believers in God, not needing to be Jewish. The list of tribes is symbolic, including the priesthood (Levi) and excluding the idolatrous Dan.
80 miles south of Megiddo in Jerusalem on the Mount of Olives, Jesus lands upon the earth creating a massive earth shattering earthquake.
The rebellious armies of earth meet the LORD at Jerusalem and He purges them with a devastating eye rotting plague. (Zech 14)

Symbolism= Eyes of judgment. Sword of His mouth represent His Word judging.
Literal 1,000 year Kingdom carries a series of complications. You must...
1. Believe that physical death will continue to exist beyond the time of Christ's second coming.
2. Believe that the natural creation will continue, beyond the time of Jesus return, that will be subjected to the curse imposed by the fall.
3. Believe that the New Heaven and New Earth will not be introduced until 1,000 years subsequent to Christ's return.
4. Believe that unbelievers will not be finally resurrected until at least 1,000 years subsequent to Christ's return.
5. Believe that unbelievers will not be finally judged and cast into lake of fire until at least 1,000 years subsequent to the return of Christ.
If there is no literal 1,000 kingdom then all of these describe the New Heaven and New Earth.
Ezekiel's temple could be a symbol of grace upon New Testament believers.
If the Millennium is not literal then this Satan lock down could represent our present experience.
Symbolism= New Jerusalem is the completion of all of God's work, the bride (church). It is not an actual boxcity
Symbolism= The 144,000 are given a mark on their forehead as well. Does everyone then, believer and unbeliever have a literal mark? Possibly not. Forehead represents the mind and the hand represents actions. (Dt. 11:18) The mark of the beast could be a free will decision to replace the law & gospel of God.
2. The Kingdom of God is both present and future. It is not a primarily Jewish Kingdom which involves the literal restoration of David's throne. God did not postpone the Kingdom because of Jewish unbelief. The Kingdom was founded by Christ while on earth, is operative now, and will be revealed in fullness later.
3. Though the last days are still future, we are in the last days now. Last days= entire era in between Jesus visits.
4. We are in Revelation 20 now. Christians enjoy the benefits of Satan being bound from national deceptions and souls of believers who have died are reigning with Christ in heaven now.
5. The "signs of the times" have both present and future relevance. Jesus return will be preceded by certain signs (gospel preached to all nations, conversion of Israel, great apostasy, great tribulation, anti-christs.) These have started and grow like pangs. He can return at any time.
6. The second coming of Jesus will be a single event, not two phases of rapture and second coming later.
7. When Jesus returns, there will be a general resurrection, of both righteous and unrighteous.
8. The 'rapture' now takes place in death. This is the "first resurrection"
9. On a single Day of the Lord all men will appear before the judgment seat of Christ.
10. After final judgment the final state is ushered in. Unbelievers to the LOF, believers into everlasting glory on a new earth.
Being asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come, he answered them,
"The kingdom of God is not coming in ways that can be observed, nor will they say, 'Look, here it is!' or 'There!' for behold, the kingdom of God is in the midst of you."
(v.8) A little horn came up among the 10 horns, and three of the horns were pulled out, the little horn had eyes of a man and a mouth which with he made boasts.
This little boastful horn could be the Beast coming up from the 10 who are now 7.
This comes from one interp of Daniel. This does not appear in Revelation.
Mentioned by Jesus and Daniel but not in Revelation.
The sky rolling back could be literally or symbolically describing the realm of heaven being revealed on earth as the merge as one.
