Born 17 March 1969; Died 11 February 2010 at age 40 by suicide.
Born in Lewisham, London
His Scottish father worked as a taxi-driver, his mother worked as a social science teacher.
He was youngest of six kids.
He dropped out of school at 16 and was offered an apprenticeship at the traditional Savile Row. Background Alexander was already working with big name clients such as Prince Charles, and was working for a designer in Milan, Italy by the time he was 20 years old.
After returning to London in 1994 and enrolling at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design, he received his masters degree in fashion design.
He was best known for his eccentric and unconventional runway shows.
Through the course of his life, his achievements in fashion earned him four British Designer of the Year awards in years 1996, 1997, 2001, and 2003. Career By 2008, McQueen already had boutiques in London, New York, Los Angeles, Milan, and Las Vegas.
Celebrity testimonials include Nicole Kidman, Penélope Cruz, Sarah Jessica Parker and Rihanna, all seen frequently wearing McQueen's designs to various events. In May 2010, Burton was made Creative Director of the Alexander McQueen brand and had worked alongside McQueen for more than 14 years.
She's most recognized for designing Kate Middleton's wedding dress in April 2011.
Burton currently lives in St Johns Wood with her husband, a fashion photographer, and continues work as Creative Director for the Alexander McQueen brand. Born 1974 in Manchester with four other siblings.
She grew up and went to school in Manchester before moving to London to study fashion at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design.
Burton completed a placement year with McQueen in 1996, on the recommendation of a tutor, rejoining again upon her graduation the year after.
