Plastic Oceans The 5 Gyres "We live in a throw-away culture" "Plastic: Made to last forever, designed to throw away" 50% of the plastic we use is buried in landfills only 5% is recycled the rest of it is unaccounted for and eventually washes out to sea what happens to the rest? some of it intentional lots of it underwater lots of it remains floating in the ocean The ocean currents swirl the garbage into large gyres, or patches The largest is the North Pacific Gyre The plastic is broken down by the waves but it never goes away Reduce your plastic waste! This was all found in one bird
