We perform two major evening concerts a year,
a winter concert and a spring concert.
We also perform at the District XIV Concert
Assessment, where we sing in front of judges
and get a score. We have consistently received
ratings of excellent or superior. At last year's concert assessment both choirs received a score of EXCELLENT on their performance and a top score of SUPERIOR in sight-reading!
Other Performances:
District Chorus Festival
Christmas Tree Lighting
Caroling
Pep Rallies, Football games, Baccalaureate
Martin's, Gazebo, Elem.
Field trips have included:
Music in the Parks/ King's Dominion
Seeing the musical "Beauty and the Beast" at Toby's Dinner Theatre
Performing at local elementary schools
Mrs. Whitney has also taken choirs to:
See "Les Miserables" at the Kennedy Center, see "Wicked" in Richmond, VA, march and sing in the Cherry Blossom Parade in DC, singing at the National Christmas Tree outside the White House, Shenandoah University, and more!
In choir:
We sing 2, 3, 4, and even more part music
We learn to sight-read in solfege together
We go over the basics of how to read music
We sing music from many genres and eras, in many languages.
We've sung many different types of music, from:
Spirituals to Broadway
Pop to Ethnic music
Country to Opera
Disney to Vocal Jazz
and many more!
Mrs. Whitney has taught songs in many languages:
English
French, Latin, Spanish, Italian
German, Hebrew, Swahili, Russian
American Sign Language (ASL)
and others!

But don't worry, the majority of our pieces are in English. And for the ones that aren't, we learn how to pronounce the words together.
I'll Make the Difference
Here are some pictures of this year's WCHS district chorus students at auditions and the festival.
The middle school district chorus rehearsing on stage at Sherando High School the morning of their concert. Lookin' good!
They held auditions for the solos in "I'll Make a Difference" and Dan (one of our 7th grade choir members) got the male solo!
