Spanish Hospital Claims Globe and Mail Article Summary Barcelona claims to have
successfully completed the world's
first full face transplant. With a team of 30
surgeons and 24 hours in the operating room, a
Spanish man, who's face had been disfigured in a car
accident 5 years ago, was the first to ever undergo such treatment. What if a car accident disfigures your entire face? You better rush over to the Vall d'Hebron Hospital in Barcelona! First Full Face Transplant How..? "If you look him in the face, you see a normal person, like anyone else we have as a patient in the hospital." He cannot yet speak, eat, smile, but can see, swallow saliva, sit up and walk around his hospital room. Partial face transplant
operations have been carried
out in the world already. The same
techniques of plastic and microsurgery were
used here, simply on a larger scale because of the damage suffered by this man was so severe. "A week after the operation,
the patient asked to look at himself
in the mirror and was satisfied with what he saw." Comments?
