Similarities and Differences in German and American Schools

Similarity
The second similarity between American and German school systems is that both countries require a foreign language to graduate high school.
Difference
Another difference is how the grading system works, in America grading is based on A,B,C,D, and F, A being the best and F being the worst. In German schools, they use numbers 1-6, 1 being the best and 6 being the worst.
Difference
In German schools sports are not part of everyday school life
They are more focused on academics
Students have to join private clubs out of schools for sports
Difference
The first difference between the American and German school systems is that the german school system does not require Kindergarten
In the American school system Kindergarten is required
German students start at grade school (Grundschule)

Difference
The second difference between German and American school system's is that German schools typically start at 7:30 compared to American schools which typically start at 8:00. German schools also get out of school around 2:00 pm.

Another similarity is that in both American and German schools, is that students are allowed to go off campus during lunch to eat
Difference
The first similarity between German and American school system's is that they both serve food to there students; they can either buy it or get it for free
The last major difference between American and German school systems is that in Germany you are not able to be home schooled. In Germany you must choose which school you want to attend between the four.
