Hypothesis
If I use different types of plastic wrap, then I will be able to find out that Glad prevents oxidation best because Glad does not stretch and is very strong.
Materials
60 cm of Glad, Wal Mart Brand, Target Brand, Saran and Stor It
Bowls (5)
5 apple slices (any kind)
Data Table
Clock

Procedure
1) Place the bowls, in a line, next to each other.
2) Place one apple in each bowl.
3) Cover each bowl with a different type of plastic wrap firmly.
4) Place each bowl next to the plastic wrap that was used.
5) Store each bowl at room temperature for four hours.
6) Record the data from the experiment.

Analysis
To analyze my results, my data is deemed reliable. My data and observations support my hypothesis because as you saw on the bar graph Glad preserves the most oxidation.
Conclusion
My hypothesis was that if I use different types of plastic wrap, then I will be able to determine that Glad prevents oxidation best because Glad does not stretch and is very strong. The results indicated that this hypothesis was correct. Because of the results of the experiment, I wonder if even more expensive brands will have the same effect as Glad. If I were to conduct this experiment again I would try more brands of plastic wrap.
Research

What is oxidation you say? Oxidation is the interaction between oxygen molecules and all the different substances they may contact. It can be from metal to living tissue. Oxidation happens approximately 20,000 times every hour. Sometimes oxidation is not a bad thing, as in the formation of super-durable anodized aluminum. However, oxidation can be destructive, such as the rusting of a metal or the spoiling of a fresh fruit.
Oxidation can occur in a fruit when chemicals in the food are exposed to oxygen. Oxidation of food is a destructive process. It causes loss of nutritional value and changes in chemical composition. Oxidation of fats and oils leads to rancidity and, in fruits such as apples, it can result in the formation of compounds which discolor the fruit.


There are three different kinds of polymers used for kitchen plastic wrap: low density polyethylene (LDPE) (e.g., Handiwrap or Glad Wrap), polyvinyl chloride (PVC) (e.g., Reynolds PVC Food service Wrap or Boardwalk PVC Food Wrap Film) and polyvinylidene chloride (PVdC)(e.g., Saran Wrap, which is almost 90% polyvinylidene chloride). In this experiment you will see the three different types of polymers.

Purpose
The purpose of this experiment was to determine which plastic wrap prevents oxidation best. I became interested in this experiment when someone I know asked which plastic wraps prevents oxidation the best. The information gained from this experiment will help people by explaining to them which brand of plastic wrap they should buy.
