Transcript of Introduction
Cerro Prieto Geothermal Power Station is the largest geothermal station in the world. It is located in Mexico and provides 3% of the nation's energy. This location has several different stations and each powerhouse has varying megawatts installed. Geothermal power plants use hydrothermal convection to get their power. The steam powers the generators.
Advantages of Geothermal Energy
1. Cost efficiency
No fuel is used in geothermal energy stations. Since no fuel is required, costs for purchasing, transporting and cleaning up plants is very low.
Advantages of Geothermal Energy (continued)
4. Direct use
Geothermal is energy cheaper and affordable and people have been using it for bathing and cooking purposes.
Disadvantages of Geothermal Energy (continued)
Geothermal stations are usually only suited for areas with hot rocky areas below Earth.
In conclusion, I think geothermal energy power stations are a good way to provide energy, even if there are slight disadvantages. This energy source is the least harmful to the environment, and still provides a good amount of power.
Disadvantages of Geothermal Energy
1. Not widespread
Not enough manpower and location cause a serious problem in making geothermal energy globally.
The Geosphere 05: Geologic Time
2. Doesn't rely on fossil fuels
It's a clean source of energy that doesn't emit harmful air into the environment, like fossil fuels.
3. No pollution
Geothermal energy does not contribute to causing global warming or pollution.
5. Job creation
Governments in other countries are wanting to create geothermal plants, which will provide more employment.
6. Renewable energy
This source of energy is renewable because it's created using steam or water.
2. High installation costs
Many things are needed to create a geothermal station and it's very expensive.
3. Can run out of steam
If temperature drops, or too much cool water is injected, the steam levels can go down.
5. Harmful gas
Geothermal sites may contain some poisonous gases from inside the Earth.
This energy cannot be easily moved. Once the energy is extracted, it can be only used in the surrounding areas.
