Amazon Rain Forest The Yanomai The yanomai are an indigenous tribe of the Amazon Rain Forest. The Yanomai have inhabited the land for over 1000 years. In 1993, gold miners killed 14 Yanomai men because they would not give up there land. Home of the Yanomami The Yanomami people live in the Yano. This is a donut shaped structure with a wide hole in the center for fires and to collect rain. The center is were rituals are held. The canopy is made of palm tree leaf by overlapping the leafs. South America contains the world's largest expanse of tropical rainforest.
More than 370 indigenous Indian people live in the amazon region.
A separate stretch of lowland rainforest known as the choco extends down from Central America to run along Columbia's coast.
It covers more than 2 million sq. mi. and it is centered where the drainage basin is on the amazon river. jdjdj The basin of the Amazon Rainforest is roughly the size of the 48 contiguous United States.
Encompasses 2.1 million sq. miles.
Largest Rainforest in the world.
Serves as a habitat for more than 2 million plant and animal species.
