Computers and Productivity While the production line helped to reduce the cost of goods and improve productivity, it had a few disadvantages: Requires a large workforce Because a production line has many steps, it requires a large number of people to support these steps. Repetitive boring work Work in a production line is repetitive and tends to be boring Automation can overcome these disadvantages. Automation occurs when machines are used to carry out a process or an activity with minimum human effort or supervision. Here's a picture of mass production :D What is artificial intelligence? Artificial Intelligence (AI) is usually defined as the science of making computers do things that require intelligence when done by humans. AI has had some success in limited, or simplified, domains. However, the five decades since the inception of AI have brought only very slow progress, and early optimism concerning the attainment of human-level intelligence has given way to an appreciation of the profound difficulty of the problem.
