Benito Mussolini Born July 29, 1883 Was always smart, but had a large ego and was violent Edited his own newspapers Speeches and writing were extreme and violent Was defeated in Election in 1919 He had many followers Wanted to take over Italian Government Led the "March on Rome" Violence was used to gain power Head of Government 1922-43 Started a dictatorship Reminded people or their Roman history Had a powerful Army No other countries wanted to get involved Became more controlling during the Depression Influenced the Italian population Was forced out of power 1943 Lost the war in 1942 Became Hitler's puppet Executed by fire squad in 1945
