Hans wanted Martin to become a lawyer. So Martin chose to become a lawyer. That same year Luther drops out of law school and keeps his promise. Luther became a monk. Once Martin dropped out of the law school he
entered the monastery in Erfurt to become a monk. Martin immediately dedicated himself to God and the monastery. He dedicated himself by fasting, flagellations, endless hours in prayers, and constant confession However the more he did these things the more
he realized how truly sinful he was. Luther was very troubled about this. So his superior Johann von Staupitz wanted to distract him from these problems. He order Luther to pursue a academic career. Since martin was now a priest. He had to start studying the scriptures in depth. Family This was when Luther realized that the church
had overlooked many key points. He then wrote everything that the church was doing
wrong. He wrote it all on a piece of paper, nailed it on
the churches front doors, and named it the Ninety Five
Theses. The church started getting angry at Luther
because people stopped buying indulgences
for forgiveness of sins The church wanted to Luther to recant all
works and words and then he would be
forgiven. Outside of Jesus and the Apostle Paul, there has been more written about Martin Luther than any other man in world history. So the church then had Luther come in front of a
council. It was called the Diet of Worms. Luther believed that salvation is a gift of God’s grace (His undeserved love). Luther start teaching people that salvation is a gift of God's grace, that it is received by faith and trust in God's promise to forgive our sins by Jesus Christ's death on the cross. -Luther’s 95 Theses questioned many teachings in the Roman Catholic Church
-It was quickly copied and published all over Europe. Because of the 95 theses, Pope Leo X, with a Papal Bull, condemned Luther’s Protestant views as heretical in 1520. At the Diet of Worms, he was given the chance to Recant (change his mind about his writings and teachings), knowing he would probably be executed, but he did NOT, and said, “Here I stand...God Help me.” Luther was kidnapped by his powerful friend, prince Frederick the Wise of Saxony.

He was brought to a castle and hid there for over a year. During this time he started translating the Bible into the peoples’ language.
