Introduction
-Started during 3500 BCE
-Developed in Egypt along the Nile River.
-One of the 1st major world civilizations
-Developed in isolation
-Rich in culture and religion
-Life depended on the Nile River
Government Structure
-Theocracy
-Pharaoh was both a political and religious leader
-Punishment met the severity of the crime committed
-Caste system based on politics and religion, like the pharaohs
-People communicated with the gods through prayer
-Men and women wore makeup for beauty and protection from the sun.
Religion
-Polytheistic
-Believed that gods controlled the natural world.
-More than 200 deities.
-Cats were sacred
-Believed that the Pharaoh was the religious leader
