Ocean pollution in Africa
Fish is essential to 400 million Africans
There is little treatment of waste
80-90% of waste entering water is untreated
South Africa dumps 656 million tons a day
Marine life ingests waste and transfers toxins
In Nigeria alone, 2097 oil spills happened in 4 years
2.4 million barrels were spilled into Niger Delta
Oil spills poison marine life
Reproductive function of animals can be lost
Oil spills destroyed 7,400 km2 of rainfores
3,500 plastic particles per square kilometer are dumped near South Africa
Garbage release toxins 100,000 to a million times higher than contained in ocean water
Toxins can also affect humans by marine life ingestion
Three of Africa's most populated countries touch oceans
What God Thinks
The Lord God took man and put him in the garden of Eden to work it and keep it.
God gave us the job of taking care of his creation and people in need.
What Should We Do?
Take care of those in need
Be lights in this darkness
And God blessed them. And God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”
In all things I have shown you that by working hard in this way we must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he himself said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’”
.Ocean pollution is morally wrong.
. Endangers humans and the marine life, in all forms.
What can we do to help?
.We should all try to recycle our trash and plastics more.
.Glass bottles are a more efficient way to drink water and other liquids. They are also reusable.
.Respect our beaches and pick up after ourselves and others.
Dumping oil, toxins, garbage and our waste into the oceans.
Destroys marine life's habitats.
Also the humans who live near the ocean are affected.
Its morally wrong because its destroying lives, and homes.
Its ruining the ocean and beaches for future generations.
