Electrolysis What is electrolysis? The breaking down of a molten or dissolved ionic compound by the passage of an electric current. At The Cathode The cathode is the negative electrode. It attracts positive cations. It is where the electrons are pumped to. Has a limited space for electrons, because electrons repel each other.
