Advanced Audio Coding AAC Type of compression Other information AAC uses lossy compression to reduce its file
sizes. This involves removing parts of the
file that are less needed and so this reduces
its file size. This makes this format more
useful for low memory devices. Computer compatability Advanced Audio Coding is compatible
with most computer formats, the
main two being Windows PC's as well
as Macs. This makes the file more
versatile and widely available. -As well as being compatible for Macs and PC's AAC is also default or standard audio format for Youtube, iPhone, iPod, iPad, Nintendo DSi, iTunes and PlayStation 3 as well as being supported by PlayStation Vita and the Wii.
-The AAC audio format was in fact created in order to be the successor to MP3 and generally achieves better sound quality than MP3 at similar bit rates.
