The main character is Nate Wright. He is very loud and obnoxious, and he thinks that he is "destined for greatness". He has two friends:Teddy and Francis. Francis is smart and always corrects Nate. Teddy is funny and he teases Nate.
The main conflict is Nate trying to make a fortune from a fortune cookie come true. The fortune said that he would "surpass all others", but in trying to do that he keeps getting detention.
This book takes place in a school called P.S 38 during recent times. It is written in first person, and a boy named Nate is telling the story.
Theme
The lesson that Nate learns is that good things can come out of bad things. He learns this when he sets a record for most detentions.
