The History of The first Barbie was invented in 1959 by
Ruth Handler. Mattel was the corporation in which Barbie was produced. 1938 Ruth and Elliot handler
were married. 1945 Mattel was founded by Elliot Handler, Ruth Handler, and Harold Matson. 1946 Harold Matson sold his
interest (in Mattel). 1959 Ruth Handler invented the
Barbie. 1960 Mattel became a publicly-
owned company (sold shares). 1967 Ruth Handler became the
President of Mattel Inc. 1974 The Handlers left Mattel Inc. The Invention of Barbie Mattel was founded in 1945 by Ruth Handler, Elliot Handler, and Harold Matson. The company produced frames. Barbie's Original Characteristics She was 11 1/2 inches tall. Barbie featured a movable head, arms, and legs. Barbie originally came in a black
and white striped bathing suit. The index finger of the right hand and
the smallest finger on both hands are
seperated, and the backs of both hands
are facing forward. The first Barbie doll had her
blonde hair pulled back into a
pony-tail. Barbie's Fictional

is Barbra Millicent
Roberts. Her parent's

and Margaret
