How to Read Food Labels
What is a Food Label?
A food label is a label on packaged food that tells you which nutrients and how many calories are in it
The number of calories tells you how much energy is in one serving
Paying attention to this number is important because eating too much might make you gain weight
Sodium is salt, eating too much can give you high blood pressure or heart disease
It's important to limit the amount of salt you take in

For example, there are 150 calories in one serving of Doritos
There are 180mg of sodium in one serving of Doritos
Sodium is an abundant element that is essential for human nutrition
The average person uses sodium every day in the form of table salt in their food
Sodium attracts water and a high-sodium diet draws water into the bloodstream
Sodium is needed for muscle contractions
Carbohydrates are your primary source of energy
The word “Doritos” is Spanish for “little bits of gold”
Doritos were invented in 1960, and first launched in 1966
