August 6th, US used the first atomic bomb The US decided to drop the atomic bomb on Japan to end the war August 8 - 1945 Russia enters war against Japan. 1945 August 14 Japanese surrender End of world war 11 1946 March - Winston Churchhill delivers Iron Curtain Speech 1947 March - Truman declares active role in Greek Civil War June 1947 - Marshall Plan is anounced 1948 June 24 - Berlin Blockade begins 1949 July - NATO ratified May 12 1949 - Berlin Blockade begins 1949 September- Mao Zedong, a communist, takes control of china.
