Terry Fox
(Terrance Stanley Fox) Facts About Terry As many know, Terry's accomplishment wasn't any typical accomplishment to be done. He raised about $24.17 million from the amount of 4'800 km ran and ran for 143 days. His goal was to raise at least 1 million dollars during his run but finished making 24 million dollars. He inspired many canadians and three decades after the Marathon of Hope, he is one of the most known "Hero's" known to man. Now schools' communities etc hold "Terry Fox Run's" every year on September 13 to raise money and awareness for cancer. Now each year, 4.9 billion dollars are being made from an average of the past 6 years. Key Accomplishments Terry Fox is concerned with Social Justice because he raised money and awareness for cancer which many people in the world are going through up to today. Each year, 12.7 million people learn that they have cancer and 7.6 million people die from cancer each year, and for Terry Fox to go out there and raise money just for those people who have cancer so they can be either cured or treated properly, in most eyes is a real hero. He changed the world like no other in a way to help all those people that are suffering from cancer. Social Justice? What can young people today do to keep Terry's dream/goal
alive? Thank You :D Terry Fox was born on July 28 1958 in Winnipeg Manitoba. He was a member of the SFU junior varsity basketball team in 1977. During that year he was diagnosed with bone cancer in his right leg which resulted in an amputation 6 inches above his knee. After seeing people going through cancer, he wanted to help raise money and awareness for cancer research so he made a goal to run from coast to coast across Canada. He started his walk in St. Johns Newfoundland and ended in pain in Thunder Bay Ontario. Per day terry ran close to 40 kilometers and a total of about 4'800 kilometers from the start to finish. Terry was forced to stop running because the cancer tumor spread through his body and to his lungs to the point where he could not breath anymore. He died on June 28, 1981 an exact month before his birthday. "Im not doing the run to become rich and famous..." "Even if I don’t finish, we need others to continue. It’s got to keep going without me."
