The Early Years
Tetracycline saw its beginning as a very versatile antibiotic when Lloyd H. Conover started working on it in 1940. This strain of antibiotics was tested on and implemented in many various ways and practicalities and was lead to a patent in 1955: Patent #2,699,054. Its terminal testing phase was around 1971 when it was unequivocally approved by the U.S. Food & Drug Admin. This was a very long sought-after product as it introduced a very useful and novel type of, what is now known as, broad spectrum antibiotics. This armament was an amazing addition in the war against bacterial diseases and infections.
Tetracycline is a type of broad spectrum antibiotic. This allowed doctors to prescribe one drug in case they weren't able to isolate the problem. Tetracycline is the most used antibiotic to date.
How it's Made
The production of antibiotics uses a process called bio synthesis. In this method, bio molecular engineers alter the environment of certain organisms and extract what would be the antibiotics. The original production of Tetracycline took a myriad of experimentation to be able to alter the bacteria to produce the desired results.
How it Works
Tetracycline is a bactericidal broad spectrum antibiotic. This means that Tetracycline will kill most to all targeted bacteria in your body. It is thought that this happens by structurally weakening the cell walls of the bad bacteria
The actual science of Tetracycline has not changed, other then using synthetic bacteria which was not specific to Tetracycline itself.
While the initial impact is good, the ability to wipe out entire cultures of bacteria from a body, the overall implications are not. Since we have started using broad spectrum antibiotics such as tetracycline, the bacteria we are killing are constantly evolving to become resistant to all of our medicine. I would want to ability to become resistant to be taken away from bacteria if I could change one thing about the product.
