TEAM
Call all the ladies out, they're in their finery
A hundred jewels on throats
A hundred jewels between teeth
Presentation By
Olive & Maddy
Wait 'til you’re announced
We’ve not yet lost all our graces
The hounds will stay in chains
Look upon your greatness
That you’ll send the call out
(Send the call out [15x])

Call the ladies out
Now bring my boys in, their skin in craters like the moon
The moon we love like a brother, while he glows through the room Dancin' around the lies we tell
Dancin' around big eyes as well
Even the comatose, they don't dance and tell

Wait 'til you’re announced
Keeping her "Queen Bee" persona
The hounds are a
metaphor
that refers to her vicious side. The chains are a
metaphor
because she does not want to show her vindictive and vicious side often, she will if she has too. So the chains represent her holding back that side of her.
Lorde likes using saying likes "Your Majesty" and "Your Greatness".
"Send the call out" refers to her inviting her dream kingdom down to the palace to party.
The "ladies" represent the popular girls, the ones who act like princesses.
Their "jewels on throats" represents their chokers around their necks. It brings the song back to the modern roots.
" Skin like craters" is a
simile
. Its referring to "her boys" or her guy friends that have bad skin, but she likes them any ways.
"The moon we love like a brother" is also a
simile
saying that they the moon shines in and guides them in the darkness, just like a brother and a sibling can help you during hard times.
"Dancin around the lies we tell" does not really mean she is dancing literary around lies it is a
metaphor
saying that most people dance to let go and forget about things that have happened.
We live in cities you will never see onscreen
Not very pretty, but we sure know how to run things
Livin'in ruins of a palace within my dreams
And you know we are on each others team.
"
We live in cities you will never see onscreen" comes from how Lorde grew up in New Zealand which is not a place many famous people come out of
"Livin'in in ruins within the palace within my dreams" also relates to Lorde`s personal life in that in her childhood she always dreamed of castles and princess but as she got older that dream faded.
"And you know we are on each others team" is
symbolism
in that it represents the unlikely friendship between her and her fans.
I`m kinda over gettin told to put my hand up in the air.
So there
"Not very pretty, but we sure know how to run things" also comes from Lorde`s hometown of New Zealand in that the city might not have been the prettiest but the city ran smoothy.
For many young people they use dancing as an escape. A big part of that is throwing their hands in their air and letting loose. By having Lorde say she is over that shows how she has matured and accepts reality
So all the cups got broke
Shards beneath our feet
But it wasn't my fault
And every ones competing for a love they wont receive.
Cause what this palaces wants is release
Things can get wild at a party and she is pinning the "broken glass" on some of her guests.

The fact that she is refusing to take the blame for the breaking of the glasses shows that she is still a kid with things to learn.
"Competing for a love they wont receive" symbolizes how people cant always get what they want. Its also could be saying that people compete for her attention just cause she is famous.

She, being a kid still thinks of herself as above all. Being the queen bee, she thinks she can't take the blame.
We live in cities you'll never see on screen
Not very pretty, but we sure know how to run things
Living in ruins of the palace within my dreams
And you know, we're on each other's team

I’m kind of over getting told to throw my hands up in the air
So there
I’m kinda older than I was when I reveled without a care
So there

As kids, it is very natural for us to go against what our parents say just because they say it.When Lorde says she is older now, it means that she has matured.
By adding the little, "so there" Lorde tells us how she may be maturing, but she still is a kid, and has more to learn
We live in cities you'll never see on screen
Not very pretty, but we sure know how to run things
Living in ruins of the palace within my dreams
And you know, we're on each other's team
We're on each other's team
And you know, we're on each other's team
We're on each other's team
And you know, and you know, and you know

In the song,
"Team"
by Lorde, uses 2 main literary devices. Throughout this presentation you will see how Lorde uses metaphors and similies. While she uses those the most, you will also see some symbolism.
