Rabbits/Bunnies Baby rabbits are called kits or kittens. By: Ashley Jones It took her 3 hours. Babies. The largest pregnancy was 2 dozen. The gestational period for a rabbit is around a month. Before the mother rabbit gives birth she makes a nest with some of her hair and whatever else she can find. Male and female rabbits. Male rabbits are bucks. Female rabbits are called does. Both male and female live to be around the same age. Different breeds. There are around 61 domesticated rabbit breeds and 531 varieties recognized in the United Kingdom The three biggest breeds. The smallest is Netherland Dwarf. Domestic rabbits and wild rabbits Most domestic rabbits can't survive on their own and need to be cared for. If a domestic rabbit ended up in the wild it could possibly die from starvation. Anatomy. Rabbits can see all around them except for their blind spot on the tip of their nose. Every rabbit has three eyelids. Rabbits teeth grow from 3.9-4.7 inches each year. The bottom teeth grow faster than the top. History. There is evidence that the Phoenicians exported rabbits to Spain in 1100 B.C. Ever since a disease spread during 1953 from Britain to France rabbits have been the number one pet in the UK. Showmanship. There are certain things that you need to know about your rabbit and also the rabbits that you are up against during your showing. You could win medals and trophy's.
