are classifications or groups of movies that have similar conventions such as content, themes, plot, mood or settings. There is a phenomenal depth to the number of movie genres that exist. There are also numerous sub-genres which overlap across multiple main genres for example, romantic comedy.
Theatrical box office income is the main metric used to determine the success of a movie. According to Box Office Mojo (1999), an accurate figure is obtained from the opening night at theatres and lifetime gross, but excludes revenue streams such as home video, merchandising and broadcasting rights.
Not everyone likes the opera, watching sports, or reading a novel, but almost everyone loves movies. You experience an emotionally satisfying journey from excitement to fear. For this reason, movie theatres are packed and is still the most popular pastime entertainment. Various sub-genres exists to entice every mood. You might wonder which was the highest grossing and best movie for 2014. The famous actor of all times is surely the viewer's choice. Let's look at the following:

Comedies are more likely than other films to fall back on the success and popularity of an individual star.

, combines comedy with traditional horror movie themes and characters. Because of the subject matter, Horror-Comedy films can cross over into the Black Comedy sub-genre.
film is a genre that revolves around anticipation and suspense. The aim for thrillers is to keep the audience alert and on the edge of their seats. The protagonist in these films is set against a problem – an escape, a mission, or a mystery. No matter what sub-genre a Thriller film falls into, it will emphasize the danger that the protagonist faces. The tension with the main problem is built on throughout the film and leads to a highly stressful climax.

is a genre that deals with imaginative themes and futuristic settings and technology. It can include space travel, time travel, parallel universes and extra-terrestrial life. Sci-Fi will always involve futuristic settings and special effects, no matter what the genre.
